Today, I am proud to be a Canadian! not an American! Canada YES! American NO!
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 03:33 PM by PM Martin
Today I am proud to be a Canadian, not an American!

I cannot believe this trash that is being called healthcare 'reform' is going to pass with little protection from the abuses that embody this industry.
This is an electoral disaster in waiting.

I cannot believe that this garbage is going to pass.

Our Health System: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hcs-sss/index-eng.php

Vs.

The American Health System: http://www.humana.com/

Edit:
I am not gloating, NOR am I bashing America. I am pointing out that I cannot believe how corrupt your congress is.
Not that ours is any prize, but we do have health care for all.
Why is there a lack of outrage by the working class? :wtf:
Someday, I want to see America join the rest of the civilized world in these matters.

There are millions of us who obviously disagree with the Health Reform and you insult all of America. Take a hike!

47. Its easy to leave this country. It is much more difficult
to get a foreign country to take you. Imagine our Canadian friends opening up their borders to anyone claiming that the reason they want to immigrate to Canada is free health care.

7. I don't blame you for your pride.
What we ave down here is a fully-formed plutonomy where both parties represent only the interests of the ruling class (one with a smiley face, and the other with a frown). This dynamic is becoming more apparent by the day.

I still prefer the smiley face, but not by much.

There's plenty of outrage among the working class, but if you protest the corporate overlords, you don't get shown on corporate TV.

I think Canada is a great country and it's great that you have universal health care, but really, rubbing salt in the wounds of people who aren't so fortunate is neither decent nor kind.

I am not rubbing anything in. I am pointing out the fact that I would not want to get sick in your country.
Fact is, if you come to Canada and take ill, we will take care of you.
If I go across the border and take ill, I will be told in the literal sense to "drop dead".

26. Are you proud of what Canada is doing in Copenhagen, too?
http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5iZkggT3QIkhXArL0R0S2VmTGmlCQ

Harper arrives in Copenhagen facing heavy criticism from developing countries and environmentalists who accuse his government of failing to make concessions to help reach a deal.

Canada leads the pack in Fossil of the Day awards, a dubious citation bestowed by environmental groups to the daily climate laggard.

Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 05:05 PM by AspenRose
an accident of birth?

I'm not "proud" to be American. I can't help it I was born to American parents.

I could always move, I guess....but not everyone can do that....

It's like ethnic "pride." I can understand being *happy* to be x,y or z...but not being "proud" of it, because there probably wasn't a choice in the matter! It's what you are, whether you like it or not!

But pride usually encompasses achievement, based on what you do, not what or who you are...or it should, anyway.

If you're proud of the accomplishments of the Canadian health system, that's one thing. But that's not what the title of your OP conveys. And if this 'dumb' American (who desperately WANTS reform) can see that, I'm sure a lot of my fellow 'idiot' Americans (who also want reform, and are fighting as hard as they can for it) can see it too.

32. canada has obvious financial advantages
massively rich in natural resources, the Saudi Arabia of everything, especially on a per capita basis vs U.S., plus they have a huge trading surplus to their only neighbor who happens to be the world's largest economy, and they have their at cost drugs/med devices subsidized by Americans... And their national defense is subsidized by the U.S... So yeah, they can offer more entitlement programs and have a small debt burden.
