On health care reform - some things you can do TODAY to act against this atrocity
Call the progressive caucus and IMPLORE the House democrats to vote against this bill. Tell them that you hold them to their word to vote against a bill that does not include a real public option.

http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/

You can call Sen Sanders and implore him to filibuster the bill in the Senate. Tell him that you will be happy to support him in action and donations for this patriotic act.

http://sanders.senate.gov/contact/?CFID=24634245&CFTOKEN=23912694

Call the White House and let them hear your anger and disgust. Let them know the consequence of this betrayal. One phone call might not do much. But, millions might make a difference.

Post important political videos and actions to your facebook page and twitter.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x413628

Call Reid's office and let him have it.

Call Pelosi's office and let her know that you expect her to LEAD the House in revolt of this bill.

Email your friends and family and have them do the same actions.

This bill is worse then the status quo and that is pretty atrocious.

Don't just bitch on DU. Bitch to the dems and let them know that there will be repurcussions for their actions.

1. How exactly does a House democrat get to vote in the Senate? The House passed its version of
the bill. Why do you want Bernie to filibuster? All he has to do is vote 'no' on the Senate bill and it's all over.

3. This has to go back to the House - it most likely won't go to reconciliation -

But, the progressive Caucus could stop it in the house.

(Kill Bill) by some of the Caucus's leadership but I don't know how solid it will be at the end.

SEIU, AFL-CIO backing off of LieberCare?
By: Michael Whitney Wednesday December 16, 2009 2:13 pm

The LieberCare health care bill is an absolutely catastrophe for labor unions, and it looks like the unions are finally waking up to that fact.

Both the AFL-CIO labor federation and SEIU, one of the country’s largest unions are holding emergency meetings today to decide what to do about the Senate bill. While the unions won’t make a final decision on the bill without the actual language to evaluate, these meetings are critical to deciding if they’ll pour their considerable resources into supporting, blocking, or sitting out the bill.

Sam Stein reports: (see link)

2. You could do all of those things, and it would have the same
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 03:39 PM by MineralMan
effect as if you threatened to hold your breath until you turned blue. Sanders will vote for the bill. Pelosi has nothing to do with the senate, and we're a while away from conference time, assuming it passes. Reid won't hear you at all.

All that calling will do nothing, since you won't speak to the person you're calling. An email would be much better, if you think addressing this at this point will help. At least they get counted. It's too late for paper mail.

Or, you could hold your breath until you turn blue.

The reality is that the next step is in the conference committee. Everything changes once again at that point and changes will be made in the bills. Better to focus your attention to that, assuming this thing even passes the Senate.

6. One of my big fears is that this will finally come to a vote at noon
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 03:54 PM by truedelphi
On Christmas eve, and three heavily (insurance) owned legislators will be the only ones there to vote on it.

7. Just like Gramm did with the Commodity Futures Modernization Act.
Only Wellstone was there to speak against it.

Color me :scared: that will happen again too.

9. We have lost Wellstone, and we have lost the Party that he was part of.

Now our political process is simply the Corporate Personhood Applauders of the Democratic Party, or the Corporate Person jehovah-god Worshippers of the Republican Party.

Although the former is better than the later, both make me want to pack up and go off to some other place.

12. Just got off the phone with the White House (1/2 hour wait) and now onto Reid

I know many people don't think that it matters, but if everyone who believed that called anyway, we would shut down the switchboards.

18. It is interesting to note (and a little sad) that posts on DU for action

Most often don't get very much attention.

It is clear that the majority of people on DU are against this bill as it stands in Congress.

We need to do check in daily threads on activism. We need to go beyond discussion, and certainly beyond email and calling. But, it is least of what we can do.

20. SANDERS first confirmed no vote - Now, pressure him to filibuster!

He said he would consider it, if the bill failed to address his key concerns.

It has failed.

Hold him to his word!
