I have to say it.

The capitalist fucks wanted to ruin Detroit to bring down the unions.

Look. They did it.

The fuckers.

Detroit was a beautiful working man's city. Don't buy the hype! Don't miss the obvious fact that Detroit's ruin was orchestrated.

3. yeah, and you might also look at Michigan as an indicator for the whole country
They've had a recession, if not depression, going for several years now. Much of the country didn't care, or just acted as if it was the fault of (your choice) mismanaged auto companies/greedy union workers. They ignore the trade advantages given to the Japanese companies, the fact that those companies aren't paying pensions, and that strong unions make for a strong workforce in general.

Pay attention. This could be your state soon.

7. And frankly, don't forget it was those very unions that gave many black families their first
legitimate chance at a middle-class lifestyle in the 40s-70s. (And that's not directed at you, Xultar.)

8. And it is not just the fault of the capitalist F___. It is the fault of many of us.
Solidarity was never a large component of our society.

Anyone who looked at the textile workers situation in the early eighties and said, "Well they're just poorly educated slobs - of course THEIR jobs are going to end up elsewhere."

Then the Corporatists in Detroit got rid of the Auto Workers, while the Computer Programmers and those with the Masters' Degrees, they all said, "Well why didn't these people go to college and get a real job and then they couldn't be put out of work. That is what I did, cuz I am so clever and smart."

Less than five years later, and the American programmers are replaced by the Corporate Office with programmers in Pakistan and India.

But by then it was too late.

Again, solidarity was never a large component of our society.

21. And then when it does become their turn to get screwed it never fails
Everyone of them starts squealing where are all my union friends now? After bragging how nice their imported car is a year earlier. I just shake my head.

We can all drive our imported cars to the protests over lack of jobs.

10. I think so, too
The rich want slaves. And if they can't have that based on race, they'll find other ways to do it.

They've been painting the US population into a corner so that we can't escape or fight back.

Then we have to give in to whatever demands they make.

And they've got their slaves back.

It looks more and more like revolution is the only (slim) chance to restore the land of the free.

Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 05:38 PM by BeHereNow
thanks to Obama, those Detroit workers CAN find employment again!

Good old four star Wes Clark had that company, what was it called, that
specialized in helping people move to other countries for work.
Maybe he can help relocate some people to Afghanistan?.

30. I have a feeling that Chicago is next
Here one of the most secure jobs was with the city. Now they are laying people off by the thousands, selling off city assets to private companies who raise cost and pay nonunion workers minimum wage as with the parking meters, they are also forcing the remaining employees to take furlough days and eliminating benefits for part-time employees. This is having a ripple affect throughout the city. More and more people are losing their jobs, and they are not coming back. It may not be as bad Detriot and NOLA but its bad.
