California likely to get single payer after Arnold's out...if a dem wins governor
The California legislature has twice passed single payer reform in CA, vetoed both times by our actor turned governator Arnold
Schwarzenegger. Report on one such veto here:

In spring 2009, a very similar to identical single payer bill was introduced to the legislature, SB 810-

I am unable to find out what happened to this latest bill exactly via google search, if it was vetoed or
never progressed in the legislature pending congressional passage of national health care reform (We all know
how that is going).

Arnold is out next year and if a dem wins governor, say Jerry Brown, odds are overwhelming that a single payer bill
will pass the legislature, and pretty good that a dem governor will sign it into law.

So while the rest of the nation gets to watch the weak dems national leadership bow to President Lieberman's will, we may actually have our own single payer. yay :-)

2. I will reserve judgment until I see it. The SF healthcare plan is a disaster
90% of the people paying for the SF plan couldn't be covered under it

5. I don't think thats a single-payer program. Its socialized health care
Not socialized insurance. Single payer covers everyone and should be funded progressively using the tax code. Different.

That being said, Id like to see California attempt to afford it

6. Yes, but fortunately, according to the Lewin Group, of all groups,
passing single payer would save the state of California $8 billion in its first year alone.
