1. What he did was lose our trust
and that is really hard to get back.
All my friends are dems and most are activists. We are the committee members, the ones who gather the petitions, knock on doors, phone bank etc. Support is gone, just gone.

20. We organize a grassroots effort.
I don't know how, but I do know that there needs to be a grassroots movement for reform, because we aren't going to get it from the players in DC.

24. the point is, unfortunately
we are not going to get it from the democratic party. the dlc will not allow it.

and THEY are the ones who, somehow, choose the party nominees. if a candidate doesn't have their support, they won't be the nominee.

we have to go outside their network.

7. You and me both
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 10:45 PM by TornadoTN
I had high hopes and stayed above the fray for the first six months or so, hoping that things were being set in motion to effect real "change" in this country. After being enamored with the guy and the other candidates that were riding on the "Hope" and "Change" train, I was sure that things would be different. I debated Republican colleagues on his merits and stood up for him - and now they look at me and grin and say "Told ya so".

But the breaking point for me was the war escalation and the final nail in the proverbial coffin has been health care. I don't see myself coming back onto the reservation after this week. Probably the biggest slap in the face to good, loyal Democrats that I've seen and it just keeps getting worse.

9. The only possible miracle is this
After all the machinations to get the regulatory bullshit through in the current bill, they come back with a simple reconciliation bill that allows anybody of any age to buy into Medicare.

Anything other than that will be an epic fail.

11. I fear reconciliation is a pipe dream, thought up just to keep us from getting too up in arms
I can just see Rahm and the rest of the crowd floating the notion out there just to get some of us sold that it is going to happen. Only to see it shot down by the same jargon that has destroyed any meaningful chance at health care reform.

This is exactly what we need. I would only add that the buy-in rates should be on a sliding scale based upon income, perhaps from ~25% actual cost for low-income earners to 200% actual cost for the very wealthy.

Not that I'm holding my breath or anything.

But I do think that I will call Senator Kay Hagan's office tomorrow and ask her to do exactly this.

12. I am also in liberal California.
I don't have Republicans as friends.

I can tell you that I don't anyone who is happy with this betrayal going on.

The last straw was dangling expanding Medicare out to people and then snatching it back and the White House lobbying Congress to kill Americans from getting their meds from Canada.

And then there's the war...

Obama is a lame duck.

Even some of the centrist Dems that I know are appalled. The anger within our Democratic circles is palpable and we have a very important and difficult election for all offices next year.

With the way things are going, next year is going to be a proverbial blood purge for the Dems in this state. Some say it's exactly what we need so we can reform and actually get a competent party together in this state, because we certainly don't have one now. So I guess that's one silver lining to the President and our Congressional Dems selling us out to corporate interests and spitting in our faces.

23. Yep, also in California.
Almost everyone I know-- even people who only casually follow politics-- is either disillusioned or outright disgusted with Obama and his administration at this point. It's like we're watching these DLC dinosaurs pulling the same cons they pulled in the 90's, oblivious to the fact that the topography has changed and it's just not playing anymore.

Who knows? Perhaps we're watching the end of the DLC. They'll take the party with them for a good long time, but there you go.

I'll concede that she might have been slightly better, since she at least has some backbone.

But between the two of them, I think we were screwed either way.

38. I was willing to take that chance.
Bear in mind, Hillary was my second-to-last choice (yes, Obama was last) -- but at least with Big Dog as the unofficial VP (and, seriously, we all know we would have gotten a twofer), I believe the economy wouldn't have been half so far down the shitter as it is right now.

As for the wars and everything else, I can't venture a guess. But I do know the Clinton years were the most prosperous for the U.S. in my lifetime.

With my guy, Kucinich, I don't know exactly where the economy would stand, but I imagine the bank/auto bailout never would have happened, and I'm certain labor would once again finally have a voice in Washington. I also have no doubt we would have completely withdrawn from both Iraq and Afghanistan long before now.

If only Americans would vote for substance instead of style... But, sadly, no amount of wishing will cure the "American Idol" generation of their gnat-like attention span, nor their unfathomable shallowness.

The idea that Obama cant win you back is completely laughable. Most wont even remember this next month forget about three years from now.

Hell I bet you dont even know why you are dissapointed, other than someone told you to be.

35. This is why I am disappointed in Obama
-The Unemployment Rate in my State......15.1%, he has YET TO ADDRESS anything in the state of Michigan with the highest Unemployment Rate in the Nation. YET, we pulled (Democrats that is) this state to Blue, just for him to make Change. Remember, we (in Michigan)voted for McCain before and probably would have done it again if it was not for the Grassroots effort and McCain pulling Palin on the Ticket. If McCain has picked Romley as V.P., Michigan and its' 17 electoral votes would have been lost.

-The HOPE FOR HOMEOWNERS mess-Again, with a state with the HIGHEST foreclosed rate in the country, what President Obama handled over to the Banks....a program that had no controls....was a disgrace to my state. We thought we might get help, instead we got peanuts.

-Health Care. Not only is he going to kill the decent health care mandates available in my states, he did not FIGHT for what he wanted? Or maybe he got what he wanted, I don't know. We should have fought harder too, I believe as Liberals, Independents (me) and Democrats dropped the ball on this one. We thought Obama would get it done. Well, he's done SO MUCH for Michigan and SO MUCH for this country....I am probably going to sit out the next election.

it is not prudent given our national situation to be spending multi billions of dollars to protect the building of the afghanistan pipeline..i remain more terrorized by the fact that there is 50% unemployment in detroit..or that nothing has been done to stop the foreclosure crisis than i am terrorized by the 100 or so al qaeda in afghanistan
