Hadassah Leiberman is not the only politician's wife who worked
for or in the health care industry.

Michelle Obama worked for the University of Chicago Hospitals. It's probably a non-profit, but still, it depends on insurance company revenue. There has, to my knowledge, never been a proposal to privatize hospitals. I wonder, however, just what Mrs. Obama did as Vice President for Community and External Affairs. Did she raise money from private interests such as health insurance company executives? Or was she organizing charitable services. Sounds like a fund-raising job to me, but I could be wrong.

In 1996, she served as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago, where she developed the University's Community Service Center.<39> In 2002, she began working for the University of Chicago Hospitals, first as executive director for community affairs and, beginning May 2005, as Vice President for Community and External Affairs.<40> She continued to hold the University of Chicago Hospitals position during the primary campaign, but cut back to part time in order to spend time with her daughters as well as work for her husband's election;<41> she subsequently took a leave of absence from her job.<42> According to the couple’s 2006 income tax return, her salary was $273,618 from the University of Chicago Hospitals, while her husband had a salary of $157,082 from the United States Senate. The total Obama income, however, was $991,296, which included $51,200 she earned as a member of the board of directors of TreeHouse Foods, and investments and royalties from his books.<43>

2. How can they possible pass this bill? They can pass it because they have no
idea what living on 60,000 dollars for a family of four means.... Also they will never be discriminated against their health issues either.

3. Bingo!
I'd love to see LIEberman lose every cent and have to make his living as a janitor. Then maybe he'd get it.

4. Sen. Evan Bayh's wife Susan
Edited on Thu Dec-17-09 12:48 AM by Swamp Rat

"His wife Susan Bayh has been described by the Fort Wayne, Indiana Journal Gazette as a "professional board member" or "professional director", having been a director of fourteen corporations since 1994 and being a director of eight as of 2006. The Journal Gazette reported that since Susan Bayh began her career as a corporate director, “Sen. Evan Bayh has cast more than 3,000 votes, including some on issues of keen interest to the pharmaceutical, broadcast, insurance, food-distribution and finance industries", Since 2003, Sen. Bayh has prohibited his staff from having lobbying contacts with his wife or representatives of the companies she directs. Mrs. Bayh makes very few public statements and has not commented on any perceived conflicts of interest. Sen. Bayh, however, has insisted his wife’s ties have had no bearing on his Congressional actions. “The reality is I don’t even know the people who run the vast majority of her companies. I’ve never even spoken to them,” Bayh told the Journal Gazette. “The reality is, we don’t talk about stuff that she’s involved with.”"

Bayh's Wife Made Millions As Board Member For Health Insurer

(snip)

"Susan Bayh's affiliation with Indianapolis-based WellPoint isn't news. But a new report on TheStreet digs into the details. It also finds that last year, Susan Bayh sat on four other corporate boards, in addition to WellPoint's. She received over $656,0000 in cash and stock for all her board work, around half of which came from WellPoint.

As the site puts it: "Susan Bayh's corporate directorships provide a significant chunk of the Bayh family income.""

(snip)

"The report also notes that Susan Bayh tends to sell her stock in WellPoint very quickly, has never held stock in the company for longer than a year, and currently owns no shares. According to TheStreet, that suggests that her concern is less with the company's long-term stock price -- as might be expected for a member for the company's board -- and more with the opportunity to make money quickly and cash out."
