3. I don't understand why we even need the Senate. |

Why should states with fewer people get an equal vote?

22. You mean how a Republican from Wyoming who represents 500,000 people |
|
can hold up reforms brought up by a Democrat from California who represents 37,000,000 people (for example)? I'm sure the Senate was a good idea in the 1700s and 1800s, but the population of the various states is far from anything they ever envisioned. On the downside, you'd probably lose people like Bernie Sanders, Ted Kennedy, or Paul Wellstone. They'd be trapped at the state level, or one of very many in the House.
If you really wanted to be able to clear some decent legislation, consider capping the population in each House district to something like 250,000 or fewer. It would be a hell of a lot easier to wage an election in that size district, and would fix some of the campaign finance issues. Unfortunately, it would also mean having 1250 or more Representatives...

4. Reconciliation means starting from scratch. |
|
That means another 3-6 months of healthcare debate, and potentially losing more votes.
Pass what we've got now, add more of the good bits later via reconciliation.

7. I'm right there. Goddamned stupid sniffy dickheads, most of 'em. |

Not Al Franken. Or Sanders. There's a couple I love. The rest are dull-witted monsters of doom.

be included in that "great" list. So far, haven't come up with one, though I'm sure there must be more. Isn't it wonderful that Al Franken can do Minnesotans proud, like Wellstone did?

It's about campaign money, holding office, and positioning for a career after work in government.

20. I agree, the pukes rammed through all sorts of shitty legislation without 60 votes. |
|
Yet "our" guys are too afraid to ram something through that would benefit everyone. Sad. Never thought I would be this disappointed in Democrats. Conservatives get everything they want and liberals or even moderates get nothing. Its like Bush got another term but has a proxy in charge.
