letter to Obama, chiefly on health care ''reform'' |
|
President Obama,
I am deeply disappointed that you did not fight vigorously for a public option open to everyone to choose or even an expansion of Medicare to people over 55.
As I am sure you know, either or both of those would have been the best way to rein in the worst practices of for-profit insurance companies by putting the fear of god in them that the public would turn their back on private insurance altogether.
Those of us who worked for your election and donated your campaign feel betrayed by your actions, and to the extent that the Democratic Party has endorsed them, by them too. Therefore, I will no longer donate to the DSCC or DCCC but only to individual candidates that will advance progressive policies.
Your actions on this issue as well as your failure to punish and rein in Wall Street are not only bad policy but bad politics.
You are jeopardizing the Democratic majorities in Congress and risk a GOP takeover. Since their policies are so wildly unpopular now, it is likely that they will do even more to hollow out our democracy to hold onto power than they did during the Bush era, and finish their project of transforming us into a Third World kleptocracy, where a few people live in a shining city on a hill and the rest of us barely survive on the garbage and sewage that rolls down the hill.
You still have the chance to be a great president, but the advice of Rahm Emanuel, Robert Rubin, Larry Summers, Tim Geithner, and Bob Gates is not going to get you there. I realize these moral degenerates helped you get into office, but they are destroying your presidency and our country. Please excise those cancers before it is too late.

1. I will be watching to see if he decides to excise those cancers before it is too late. I fear they |
|
are reflections of his true beliefs.

2. Obama's fixed for life now. He's got his and his girls will be OK. |
|
He couldn't care less about you or me. He said what he had to in order to get our votes, but now we can all just go get fucked as far as he's concerned.
Actions speak louder than words. Where's the accountability? Where's the transparency? How many campaign promises are we going to allow him to break before we hold him accountable?
The polls say he's out of the honeymoon period now. He has precious little time to recover. (But I doubt he wants to.)

3. I would say he'll be a one termer, but in truth, he'll look a little more successful than |
|
Bill Clinton if he gets this version of health insurance reform through.
