Mom's Tweet After Son's Death Debated
Mom's Tweet After Son's Death Debated
2-Year-Old Drowned In Merritt Island Swimming Pool

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -- A child’s jumbled train tracks and a toppled plastic dinosaur lie on the floor by the Ross family’s Christmas tree, left behind by 2-year-old Bryson Ross before he drowned in the family’s swimming pool Monday evening.

But it’s what has been happening on the Internet that has people talking about the tragedy and what is acceptable in today’s world of instant communication and tell-all messaging.

Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported that Bryson’s mother, Shellie Ross, posted on Twitter.com about his accident a half-hour after she called paramedics -- and then was attacked by strangers nationwide in follow-up tweets and blogs for doing so.

Social media experts said Ross did nothing wrong. Her friends call the 37-year-old a caring, devoted mom.

1. not very devoted in my opinion
In two more weeks I will have managed, along with my wife, to raise three children to adulthood without getting any of them killed.

There are no such thing as accidents. This is neglect.

If you own a pool and have a toddler there is no excuse for this happening.

None. Ever. Period.

4. Compassion is nicer than negligence, sure, but there is no doubt that negligence killed
the kid.

3. Maybe is she wasn't
to be busy tweeting she would have been around her son and could have prevented such a tragedy. I don't know, I really shouldn't comment like that since I wasn't there. But come on, then she tweets about it a half hour later. WTF?!!! Am I the only one who finds that completely screwed up? God, I feel like I am taking crazy pills.

5. According to the story she was tweeting at 5:22 and made the call to 911 at 5:38
Draw your own conclusions but whatever happened she'll have to live with what she did or didn't do.

7. Except
"There is nothing in Ross’ posts that indicate she was on the computer or cell phone at the time of the tragedy."

6. Not the only one.
This woman has two other children, both old enough to understand what happened, who could probably have used their mom's attention more than her blog readers. What about her child's father, wouldn't interacting with him be more important than putting up a 'memorial' online?
