10. As a person who loosely believes in theistic evolution, I say this in rebuttal

(And by "loosely believes" I mean that your average theistic evolutionist believes that there is a God and that he/she/it used evolution to create all we see. As a loose follower I "believe" in evolution and think that maybe there is a god who might have been involved in kicking it off. Maybe.)

and i beg to differ, incoherence and self-contradiction is at the very heart of theism and religion. god is both night and day, alpha and omega. there are conflicting stories throughout the bible, starting right up front with two creation stories in genesis.

sociologically, i would even argue that this incoherence and self-contradition is a fundamental component of the broad appeal of religion. it enables a religion to provide comforting answers to a wider range of questions.

when an evil villain dies in a hurricane, god smote him down because he was wicked.
when a pious and righteous loved one dies in the same hurricane, god wanted him by his side.
when you just don't know what to make of what happened, the lord moves in mysterious ways.

the notion that hurricanes simply happen and anyone caught in the wrong place at the wrong time dies, having nothing to do much else, coherent and non-contradictory, but lacks the sort of spiritual comfort people need when dealing with the aftermath.
