Should we have two health care bills?
One that does some basic regulation and then a second that creates a public option and opens up medicare?

This would allow us to get a pretty basic win and then go through a separate bruising fight.

1. Through amendments that is possible. w/o a bill to amend it is not.

4. Yes. And run the second one through reconciliation.
At this point that's the best way to handle things. The current bill has regulation--let's run up a second one after the new year with the other stuff.

5. I think we just need two countries - one for religious zealouts who think Ayn Rand = Jesus,
and the government is just a free-for-all of screwing your neighbors and kicking the poor, (that would be the Republican one, just in case someone doesn't understand that),

and one for decent human beings.

We'll let the evil jackasses who want life to be a cage match have South Dakota so we can keep them separated from the rest of the world and they can pretend whatever the fuck they want.

Maybe we'll even toss in food once in a while for them.
