Jeezus Reid, couldn't you have at least made them actually filibuster a little bit
before giving in?

1. Actually, I think the way the rules work now, there really can't be
a genuine filibuster. Just the threat of one triggers the cloture vote. That's a pity, since the filibuster required some real dedication on the part of those doing it. Now, you just whine and the cloture vote is called. I'd like to see it go back to the old system, where grumpy old Senators had to stay up all night and read recipes from their constituents into the Congressional Record to keep the stupid thing going. That seemed fair enough. Now, it's too easy for the minority to block a bill.

3. Dump Reid. Bury Harry. Free the Democratic Majority.
Worst Majority Leader, ever.

5. Reid doesn't want to make love, he wants to masturbate into a handkerchief

he wants a quick end so he can get back to important things - like listening to more corporate lobbyist voices in the halls of Congress

6. Replacing Reid with another Democrat should be a very, very high
priority in 2010. He's definitely vulnerable, but we need a strong candidate on our side or there will be a GOOPer in his seat.

7. He will likely lose his seat in NV next year
So there will be a new leader. Hopefully a better one. I don't know who yet.

9. Actually, I was talking about his seat in NV, not the
Senate post. He should lose the Senate post, too, but I'd like to see him replaced altogether. He's an ineffective and fairly useless "leader."

8. I just wonder who?
My choice would be Bernie Sanders. But Bernie's not a Dem.

10. those dramatic, marathon "refusal to yield the floor" filibusters ended in 1975
with a change to senate rule 22, senators can simply demand a cloture vote and if there isn't 60 votes for cloture, then the underlying bill can't be voted on. the filibustering minority doesn't have to do anything beyond the initial demand.

technically, a filibuster is ANY delaying technique, so in that sense, they have been filibustering.

e.g., simply requiring that the gargantuan bill be read out loud, line by line, before debate actually starts is a filibuster.

11. The only time Reid would allow a filly buster would be ...
if he owned a horse ranch.
