I am sympathetic to the effort, but Micheal needs to research it before launching this.

Emergency legislative session, draft an amendment and get it passed. If Connecticut citizens are angry enough, they'll pass it.

Other threads out there today on this subject. It is not possible for a state to recall a member of Congress.

61. Says who? I read the Constitution, and although there's no specific recall
procedure listed, there's also nothing barring states from instituting their own procedures, and I can't find a Supreme Court ruling that forbids such a thing. The Constitution outlines what the powers of the federal government are, and specifically says that the powers that aren't listed there are reserved to the States and to the People. The power to recall does not violate any of the amendments; if anything it's a perfect example of due process in action.

In fact, I'd say that the passage of the 17th Amendment provides a good legal argument that, because Senators are now elected by the people, that they are also now duly accountable *to* the people, and that there exists a right of the people to recall any elected federal official who is accountable to them. Just because it's never been tried before doesn't mean that it can't be done.

62. Rankin v. Church for one.
Article I, Section 5(2) of the constitution specifically delegates the power for removing sitting U. S. Senators to the United States through a 2/3 vote in the Senate, therefore, it does not pass the tenth amendment test for powers reserved to the states or the people.

18. I don't know if that means a boycott is a bad idea ....
If an effective boycott could be started it could
1 - give CT voters a reason not to return Lieberman to the Senate.
2 - make it difficult for Lieberman to insist his actions help the state.

51. Which is why telling people they have to buy
a commodity from a Private Insurance business with no other option or they'll have to pay a punitive tax, and if they refuse to do that, they'll go to jail, is a threat against the American people and yes, it's 'bullshit'. Although for some, when a Democrat does it, it's okay.

MM is angry, like everyone else who's been watching all this. He's done more to try to get a decent healthcare system in this country, than anyone else I know. His movie Sicko should be viewed by everyone, and if it was, the travesty of what is happening over getting a decent healthcare system in this country, would not be a surprise to anyone.

Thank you MM for all you did and sorry that the Dems ignored you too. Love the guy. He's got guts, unlike the weasels we elected.

32. Moore is on the proper side of every important issue, who are the cowards
that dare attack him for being a clear and creative force of intellect on so many issues on the side of US citizens.

Outsourcing to Mexico was supposed to save the auto industry - he was attacked
Iraq War - centrists attacked him
Gun Crazy America - centrists attacked him
Health Care - centrists attacked him
Wall Street - centrists attacked him

Juvenile "liberal" poser attack this man for doing something that you just do not see anywhere anymore. There is barely a man in america who worthy to attack this extremely principled and effective leader. He isn't charismatic, he isn't pretty, he get's it right nearly every fucking time

Remember 60 minutes before they cut their own balls off and became a bunch of pussies?

Jesus christ anyone who speaks out against the hypocrisy and injustice is mocked and ridiculed by the "centrists" and "realists" on DU.

Fuck all of you cowards attacking Moore - you are just slitting your own throats. I'll trust his research and analysis over over any centrist capitulator sitting in the Whitehouse.

We should be taking to the streets and doing what's right. But instead democratic cowards are preening in the mirror and trying to look cool by slamming Moore for being different.

The subject is Moore's 140-character tweet, and pending elaboration on Moore's part, it seems to lack a specific, viable plan of attack. That's the comedic element here. As soon as Michael Moore tells me how I can effectively fight Joe Lieberman, I'm on board.

In the meantime, you can keep your little "fuck you cowards" to yourself.

50. I just wish there was something on that list that I personally could boycott
I don't have insurance with those two companies. There's nothing added to the list (in the comments section) that I currently buy, or was planning to buy.

I'm not saying we should not support his idea. I'm saying I think it won't be as effective as it needs to be.

Michael Moore has a huge circle of influence, and I wish he would use it on a better idea. For example, what if he organized an across-the-board insurance boycott, regardless of which states the companies were headquartered in? Imagine tens of millions of Americans promising to cancel all their policies if this mandated-insurance bill passes. Moore has enough influence to organize something like that, and it could work.

Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 03:44 PM by cascadiance
The Senate CAN vote to expel him, and if one can show enough of the rabble are downright sick of him, especially in his state, perhaps that would be a signal that they should find a way to get him out if they want to protect their own arses for reelection too.

Maybe make two props and another recommend that congress amend the constitution to allow a means to impeach a sitting congress person, even if it has very high voting requirements (2/3rds majority). I think you just might be able to out someone like Lieberman.

From Al Franken's recent actions, I bet he'd support a move to expel him!
