Yet another embarassing thing from my community in MI

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A high school teacher could be in a lot of trouble after sending out a controversial email.

A teacher at South Haven High School sent the email out on school grounds, and some who received it were offended, saying it is completely racist.

Whether the email was an inside joke between friends or the result of a lapse in judgment, it got out at South Haven High School and it has tempers flaring.

The email, about a black Santa Claus, was sent from a white teacher to a black teacher on school computers, with a note, 'See below, could you translate for me?'

1. Racist shit. It's that simple.

If it were me, I'd can the white teacher who sent it to the black teacher. It's nothing but a racist insult. The key is the request for a "translation." Anyone can read the thing and understand that it's based on racial stereotypes and was written by a white racist.

Call the teacher in and tell him/her: "Pack up your junk. You are no longer a teacher here."

3. Resolved,...right...
That usually means that the guy who was insulted by the email gets to eat crap one more time, while the perpetrator gets a nice scolding an is told to "be more careful in the future."

I hope there's a huge controversy over this. There should be.

this e-mail is just useing the steriotype that "black" people perpetuate for them selves. you see it in there music and there artwork. the lyrics to every rap song i hear is full of english so butchered that eaven george bush would scratch his head and go say wah? (i know my spelling isent perfect but at least i try.) and the art (if it can be called that) if full of people with HUGE lips and or guts. i dont mean steven tyler huge... i mean lips so giant, one would wonder how the person being drawn would get around without tripping over them. why is a race of people going to put things like this out in the public eye and then get angry when people make jokes about it? dr. kings dream works both ways people.

I find it interesting that this person complains about "black" English.

7. the teacher's not the only one.
Some of the comments at the link show the attitude is not isolated to the teacher. I am a Michigander, born and bred, but I know racism is alive and well here. We also have an unfortunate problem with militia groups, perhaps related.

8. There was a time when most people would have shrugged and thought this was no big deal
The good news is a good many in your community do care and there is outrage. Sure, be embarrassed for this teacher but proud of your community, at least those who "get it."
