What Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) Promised the Tea Party Movement
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 10:23 AM by kpete
Isakson’s comments about the GOP’s actual strategy against the bill are pretty revealing:

*****The activists displayed impatience with the Republican strategy of prolonging debate on health-care reform by offering amendments to the bill from the Senate floor. “We don’t want amendments,” one woman said. “We don’t want a bill.”

Isakson defended the strategy, calling it “brilliant,” and crediting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for crafting it. “That’s the only way we can do — make the other side show its hand,” he said.

One woman in the group proved to be a bit of an outlier. “If this bill is killed, will there be some sort of reform made to health care so that we can afford it?” she asked. “I don’t have health care.”

Isakson launched into the standard GOP talking point of allowing people to purchase insurance policies across state lines.

1. "We've got nothing"
And that's been the point all along.

I wonder if she's a tea-bagger or not

3. Probably not
or if she is, she's not a very good one. She sounds like she is trying to ask what appears to be a sensible and logical question. I wonder how many "tea baggers" are currently lacking health insurance coverage and if they are, I wonder if any of them are smart enough to realize that they are simply being used as pawns by the right to fight against something that would actually be in their best interests. Probably not many of them I imagine. :eyes:

5. If it were possible to do a survey
I'd bet that MANY teabaggers are either without health care or on some type of government program such as medicare or medicaid.

6. I'd definitely take that bet too!
Throughout this entire *debate*, it's been both hilarious and jaw-dropping to hear "teabaggers" covered by Medicare or other government health programs (i.e. Veterans Administration) railing against.......government health programs.

7. Actually, she sounds like the dead center of the Teabagger movement
Remember, these are the people who want the government not to interfere with their Medicare or Social Security. They don't have health insurance or access to health care, but they've been told that government-run health care would be socialistic or something, so they're agin it. When one of them voices a common concern ("So, like, what's the program for getting me access to health care?"), you have to believe that folks like Isaakson are momentarily confused, then they remember that they're gulling the rube base.

I'd bet a nickel this woman is probably one of the "leaders" of the Teabaggers.
