2. I was wondering the same thing.
All the elections are done in individual states. They have conventions. Maybe the goal is to find a replacement for Obama for 2012 before he's even spent two years in office. That seems to be the trend of thought amongst some here.

3. To decide what the hell we're doing,
what we actually STAND for, and how to overcome the divisions, as well as to provide a venue for state and local Dems to be heard? We're in the middle of a crisis, after all. Communication is a good thing.

15. I think that the plaform that would emerge would only further drive liberals out. For wouldn't
the platform now abandon...

choice

sexual orientation as a protected status

emphasis on social progress issues such as health care

environmental protection

diplomatic solutions to international troubles

Main Street-supportive economic policies for Wall Street and Bankster bail-outs

etc., etc., etc.,?

It seems that there are now NO requirements for calling yourself a Democrat - anyone can do it. Beliefs do not matter. Only victory.

16. It would probably be pretty bloody. But perhaps it's time to settle it once and for all.
The rebubbalickins, bless their little blackened and shriveled-up hearts, seem to have a unifying theme -- More tax cuts good; Anything and everything else, bad.

At the moment, the only thing Democrats have going for them is that they're not Republicans. The "We-Don't-Suck-As-Bad-As-They-Do" Party.

But I think the days of candidates running as Republican and Not-Republican may be drawing to a close. Especially since all-too-many Democrats are becoming indistinguishable from bottom-feeding rebubbalickins.

JMHO, YMMV, Close Cover Before Striking.

8. Ed was saying this is an old tradition that was dropped
his motive is to rally the base and cause the pukes to shake in their boots I think.

21. Really? That is new to me.
I bet Ed didn't explain how they conducted this old tradition, where it was conducted, or when it was last conducted.

19. To issue an ultimatum. Act and vote like Democrats or we're not gonna help you get reelected.

No more door knocking, no more phone banking, no more committee meetings, no more poll watching, no more conventions.

They can't operate on corporate donations, alone. They need the activists to get out the vote and do the work.

If they need a demonstration, look at the Virginia Governor's race.

5. Maybe
Depends on what the purpose is. For example, I'd be in favor of a platform convention, provided there were absolutely no Blue Balled Cowards or DLC'ers involved.

6. A revamped Democratic Party platform WOULD be a good idea
That would be the main focus of such a convention. A lot of delegates go to cheer on the Presidential nominee and have a good time, but there's also a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved for those who choose to tackle it.

10. I dont think they would want to expose themselves to our complaints
It might end up like those town hall meetings last summer, only much larger.

and perhaps some open revolts

perhaps seeing stupik and nelson booed off the podium.

I know here in wisconsin there are a few folks who should be booed.
