Hmmm... the current Senate HCR bill opponents may be on to something...
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 04:29 PM by lapfog_1
Conducted by Research 2000 for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and Democracy for America (DFA), the survey finds only 33 percent of likely voters favor a health care bill that does not include a public health insurance option and does not expand Medicare, but does require all Americans to get health insurance. Slightly more Democrats -- 37 percent -- favor the idea, while only 30 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of independents do.

Meanwhile, if the public option and Medicare buy-in are added, 58 percent of people support the idea. The number of Republican supporters drops to 22 percent, but independent support rises to 57 percent and Democratic support to a whopping 88 percent.

"This poll shows voters in full-blown revolt against the Senate bill," said PCCC co-founder Stephanie Taylor. "Only one-third of voters support mandates without a public option, while nearly two-thirds want the public option and Medicare expansion. This will be a disaster of epic proportions for Democrats in 2010 if it's not fixed -- fast."

2. Not my term, but one that's been applied to me.
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 04:35 PM by lapfog_1
It's a stupid term.

Edited OP to remove offending term. That wasn't to be the point of the post.

The point is that polling agrees with the position that many here (including me) have taken.

Just as I predicted it would.

3. Wow. More Republicans support the mandate w/no public option and buy in.
Very telling, there.

21. Yup! They know they will win the next election if there is a mandate
They could run Santa Claus and win in such an environment.

5. Ok, it's a term that I've been labeled with.
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 04:32 PM by lapfog_1
I'll try to fix to OP.

edit to add... fixed the OP to remove the offending term.

I hated it, but felt I needed some quick label to describe the group of us here that want this bill deep-sixed, and want something else passed via reconciliation. "Sane people" would have been my choice, but not very descriptive.

17. I understood you were using it ironically, lapfog.

I just think it needs to die, so no point in using it at all, IMO. Also, it might get your thread deleted or locked. (I say 'might.' I am not an administrator.)

9. There is now
The DLC types making a pig's ear out of health insurance reform are trying to paint mainstream Americans, especially mainstream Democrats, as some sort of dehumanized loony left faction.

A party that ignores the mainstream, especially the mainstream of its rank and file voters, will lose big. They will richly deserve it.

Unfortunately, the alternative is even less appealing.

8. So...
If I donated $500 to the campaign, knocked on doors, made calls, and gave rides to the polls - and now I think the senate bill is a bad idea - does that make me a "Left Bagger?"

10. According to many people here at DU, it does.
And I did those same things. And I oppose this current bill.

Only I donated more money and, because of where I live, less time.

desperately want to hand more wealth to their corporate buddies, but you'd think a little shallow self interest would kick in at some point. If this thing passes as is, they're going to be left with a constituency comprised of nothing but healthcare executives, Wall Street bankers, and a handful of Obama Fan Club members.

I thought W knew how to blow political capital, but these guys are giving him a run for his money.

13. I was at a VA hospital yesterday and talked with a group of fed employees

all democrats who are not that active and was surprised that they all knew the details and no one wanted the bill to pass without the public option.

People have been paying attention.

14. I'm sure the quick response will be...
...that this was a poll commissioned by DKos and Dean's organization, so its impartiality is suspect. More worrying, although not as ideologically clear-cut, are the polls out of the major organizations, all of which show a drop in support since this week's cave, with a slim plurality now saying the status quo is preferable, which is exactly opposite results when a public option was still in the bill.
