Former Lawmaker Convicted of Raping His Daughters Copyrights His Name to Bar Its Use by Daughters and Reporters



A former lawmaker convicted of raping his foster daughters says news media are no longer allowed to use his name without his permission.

Ted Klaudt sent notices to the Argus Leader and several other news outlets claiming he has copyrighted his own name. Reporters were told to ask his permission 20 days before publishing his name and threatened with $2 million penalties for each unauthorized use.

A former state representative from Walker, Klaudt was convicted of second-degree rape in 2007 after convincing his 17- and 19-year-old foster daughters to let him touch their breasts and genitals in a purported attempt to collect their ovarian eggs. He was sentenced to 44 years in prison for rape and 10 more years for witness tampering. He is being housed at the state prison in Springfield.

Klaudt's daughter, Roxy, confirmed that her father had sent the copyright notice but would not explain why.

Skipping past the sick pile of shit this guy is and the harm he continues to inflict , does this set the precedent that anyone can copyright their name and keep it out of the papers? Does this mean that if this guy has to register as a sex offender anyone who lists him can be sued? Does this mean a politician can copyright his name and demand that the press get permission before using it?
