4. They Said Earlier Today That It Might Head Out To Sea...
And that Boston might only get couple of inches of snow.

But you're correct, it sure looks like it's coming your way.

Stay safe and warm

6. I'm in the middle of that huge storm. We have
about 7 inches of snow in less than 6 hours and we're supposed to get 5 - 7 more before it's done.

I have my gas logs going to keep the house toasty warm and just hoping the electricity doesn't go out. We have a well so when the electricity is out we have no water.

9. I have an emergency generator that is hard wired into my electric
system. It powers everything, uses propane and goes on automatically when the power goes out which it does frequently up here. When I was building this house it was the last thing I did and I almost didn't. Last year during the awful ice storm, I lost the power for 2 weeks. Suffice it to say, that generator was the best thing I ever did!

12. I-77 at Wytheville, Va is a parking lot
My daughter (traveling home to Ohio with a friend) has been in a standstill mass of traffic for almost four hours right outside of Wytheville Va. ON the Interstate. There is about six inches of snow, so far and no one has moved an inch. There are no snow trucks available and the Highway Patrol there gives this great advice: *Pull off at the nearest exit and find a hotel, the snow is deep*

No one is MOVING for Crapsake!!!!

They have no plans on trying to clear the roads. But they managed to correct my pronunciation of their city while basically saying they were doing nothing, but looking into making some kind of shelter maybe ...which no one can reach because they can't move their cars. No one has seen one police or emergency authority car, period. In other words...hundreds upon hundred of cars are stopped and on their own.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Tell them NOT to try to get through the mountains tonight. If there's any possible way to find a place to stay, they should do it.

I talked to my sister about 4hrs ago. She lives north of Roanoke, Va and about 40miles from the WVa line. They had about 8-10 inches accumulation then, with about 18in predicted, so the farther north they go, the worse it's going to be.

If they have to stay in the car tonight, make sure they know to keep the area around the exhaust pipe cleared so carbon monoxide doesn't get into the car.

I'll be sending positive thought to them and you. Please keep us posted.

40. GL,
Here's an audio feed for EMS, State and local police, etc. Maybe it'll help you keep up with what's going on in Wytheville tonight. The areas marked in blue are the one's participating. The closest live feed where your daughter is would be Smyth Co, I think. Hope it helps. Have you heard anything else from her?

THank-you ALL for being so concerned and caring!! I am very touched.

She managed to get off at EXIT 70 in Wytheville, and the roads were plowed. She was able to get to a restroom and pick up some food at a convenience store at the exit. All of the local hotels/motels,/chains are full up, so she was following a line of cars from the hotels to the local highschool where they said they set up a shelter.

Waiting to hear when she gets there.
I will let you know.

THank-you again, I was just starting to get close to flipping out! :)

48. That's great news!
Tell her to sit tight. Those mountains are treacherous. She may not be able to get out of there for a couple of days if there's lots of snow accumulation.

There's a stretch called Fancy Gap where they have runaway truck ramps in case the truckers lose their brakes coming down the mountain. It's very prone to fog and black ice, so tell her not to try to get back on the road until she's sure they're cleared north of her.

Which route will she be traveling? Keep in touch. I have family all over the place up there and can probably get you road reports most of the way if you need them. Pm me if you want to.

I'm listening to the live feed from SW Va now. They are really busy. Lots of radio traffic. Trees down in the roads. What a mess! I'm so glad she's off the road and safe!
