Rapper Lil’ Wayne and 11 others were detained by the U.S. Border Patrol on Friday night for investigation of possible possession of marijuana, officials said.
Lil’ Wayne is scheduled to perform at the American Bank Center on Sunday, and representatives for the venue said they believe the concert will go on as scheduled.
Two of Lil’ Wayne’s tour buses were stopped at the Falfurrias checkpoint about 3 p.m. after a drug dog alerted agents and marijuana was found on both of the buses, Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Joe Trevino said.
Trevino would not say how much marijuana was seized, saying only that it was not found in any one person’s possession. The group was released by the Border Patrol about 9:20 p.m. and referred to the Brooks County Sheriff’s Department, he said. That agency would determine whether anyone in the group would be cited, he said.
