Poll question: Should an "unreccomend" vote require a comment in order to cast "unreccomend" vote? |

7. If you disagree with a thread enough to give it an UnRec |
|
why should you be required to then give it a kick?
If there were OPs that stated something like "Obama sucks" or "Dennis Kucinich sucks", might not more than a few DUers feel justified in giving it an UnRec and not justifying their choice by giving the thread a kick?
There are many threads which many DUers believe deserve to get an UnRec, including threads with which I may agree and I can live with that.
DUers are far too obsessed with Rec and UnRec which are only good for 24 hours, but you can always kick a thread to the top of its forum. There is far too much whining about when an OP gets UnRecs. In fact, I have seen threads that must have had something to say, but it was so important to use the very first response to point out that it received UnRecs. To be bluntly honest I believe that DU has its share of Rec whores who get their undies in a bind when their thread or one with which they agree gets UnRecs.

8. It might be interesting for the admins to offer the rec - unrec function |
|
in a bag, so to speak.
Like an allowance.
Folks would get ____ recs or unrecs per quarter to spend as they please.
If you were wildly appalled at a given thread you could slam it with say, 5 unrecs, or even 10.
If you were deeply impressed with another thread you could give it a boost the same way.
And it goes without saying that cold beer and tacos should be made available to all.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't bother. I assume that most DUers do much the same.

I wish to fuck people would stop bloody whingeing about the unrecommend feature, I really do. A significant percentage of what ended up on the 'greatest' page before it was instituted was absolute bollocks. (But then I kind of find the 'greatest' page to be a useless and unnecessary feature anyway; I am not a sheep, and therefore am able to determine what is interesting or informative and what is not by reading the forum proper rather than seeing what other people have recommended.)

17. Isn't it obvious they cannot stop themselves? |
|
This kind of chronic complaining about not getting one's way speaks to a deeply embedded childish nature that learned through misconduct it can be rewarded by having tantrums. Some never outgrow that, and these weekend unrec threads are evidence of it.
None of these whiners ever write the admins about it. They want to bemoan and castigate posters who USE the feature. It doesn't matter if you post on the thread and tell them why their thread sucks, either. Posting comments and telling them why their opinion is lame will not be sufficient. They'll still wail uncontrollably "but why?!"
