Things you can actually DO to protest the Senate bill and fight back, move on petition link included

It is very clear that the majority of DU stands against the Senate Health Care bill. It is truly atrocious legislation and over the last 24 hours it has become even worse.

So, what do we do?

Moveon has created a petition to pressure Sanders and other liberal Senators to filibuster the bill, until the legislation can be fixed. Here's the link:

http://pol.moveon.org/block/?r_by=18365-3760686-jHKh0Vx&rc=comment_paste

Please twitter and facebook this link at the top of your page! E-mail the link to your family and friends.

You should also CALL Sanders office and tell him that you want him to filibuster this bill. The vote for the cloture motion is Monday night, so if you can't get through this weekend because the office is closed or the machine is full, you can call ALL DAY Monday.

http://sanders.senate.gov/

Ron Wyden is also another progressive, we might be able to influence. Contact him here:

http://wyden.senate.gov/

CALL the White House and let them the consequences of enacting the Senate version of this bill. Will you no longer donate? Volunteer? Are you going to change your party affliation to independent? Are you going to work on a campaign for a primary opponent of Obama in 2012? All of the above? Let them know that there actions will have consequences. The White House is already 'surprised and shocked' at the outrage this is causing on the left. We need to add to that emotional spectrum 'AFRAID' of the reaction on the left. If they believe we will vote and support them, no matter what (and if we keep doing that), they will continue to spit in our faces, at every turn. You MUST call and get others to do so as well. We need to shut down the WH switchboard!

Here is the contact page for email and phone numbers. Don't just e-mail. CALL as well.

Call Reid, and do the same.

http://reid.senate.gov/

Call your Senator and tell them you want the Senate bill defeated, as currently written.

If we can't get this filibustered, we can work to pressure the House and especially the House progressive caucus to fight back and defeat the bill.

Lastly, kick and recommend this post to keep these action alerts at the forefront. All to often, I post action posts and they seem to disappear. Don't just bitch on a message board, the people in charge need to hear your voice!

3. Well, I guess I can say I'm "proud" that my Senators will vote against this bill.
Inhofe and Coburn.

Absolutely first time I've ever used the word "proud" in relation to them. Pathetic, ain't it? :puke:

8. Yes, it's pathetic that we allow turncoat Dems to post on DEMOCRATIC Underground these days.
You're supporting the absolute worst of the worst Republicans.

You're also supporting the status quo, which is precisely what the insurance industry wants.

Step away for a second and really look at what you just wrote. Does it really make you proud to say that?

14. Let's get some thing straight....

The turn coats are the dems who sold the American peoples' very lives and health out to the health care industry.

YOU are supporting the MANDATE of the status quo by supporting legislation that enslaves people to the corporate health care system.

You are buying the lie of this political system. The democrats and the republicans serve the same corporate master. They just play different roles in the game.

I am VERY VERY VERY proud to stand for principle over party and political loyalty. It is the ONLY thing that counts. Surrendering our principles is precisely why we stand at this miserable prepice, today.

17. >>turncoat Dems
Excuse me????

Only if recognizing that a large portion of my party has SOLD OUT, and that we have two wings of the corporate party, makes me a "turncoat." THEY are the turncoats.

16. Won't happen.
Anything that's good for people = bad for Republicans.

They like war, death, destruction, corruption. That's mental masturbation for them.

6. Yep, another petitition will do the trick. Sanders is voting for the bill
which he doesn't think is the best by any means but he does see it as a beginning and has said it has some good things in it and says it will provide 30 million or more people with insurance. Other good progressives and liberals in the senate also recognize that it isn't perfect but are going to vote for it.

9. Stop parroting the lie. 30 more million people will be FORCED

To buy a product which MAY or MAY NOT provide some type of health care coverage....

30 million people will be forced to purchase a product they may NOT be able to afford.

30 million people are being delivered into the enslavement of the health care industry.

30 million people will be forced to pick some TYPE of coverage, and they will buy what they can afford. Low end policies have HUGE co-pays and deductibles. And, the catastrophic coverage isn't even enough to cover one hospital stay.

This is a travesty.

11. "Provide"? How about FORCE THEM TO BUY?
That's not the same thing.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.
