The HRC bill will most likely become law. So what are you going to do about it? |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 05:35 PM by still_one
There are at least three things you can do:
1. Urge your representatives in Congress to amend the law, and make it right before 2014. 2. Push for candidates who shares your view to do the right thing. 3. Hold your breath until you turn blue. 4. All of the above

I agree that is a productive choice
I also believe, though it may not accomplish much, to push your existing representatives to correct this bill

We, unlike the health care industry, have NO influence over our representatives. None. Nada. ZILCH. They obey their corporate masters. NOT US.

They have crapped on the people on behalf of the health industry, therefore the letter that follows their names is meaningless.

15. Stay home, no more calls, no more contributions, no more votes. |
|
Why should I?
All this time, all of these people that I respected, fought for, donated to, kept telling me that we need to fight the good fight, that this was a core principle that could not be compromised.
And they lied to me about that.
So, am I a spoiled brat or a jilted lover?
I think I'm just being rational. I'll spend my time and resources on someone that, hopefully, won't compromise a core value.
That seems pretty simple.
I joined the Dems as an activist the day Gore lost in the Supreme Court. I had been a Greenie up to then. I didn't like what happened, and I blamed Nader and my party for it ( at least in part, though I think if Al had just trusted enough to ask for the statewide recount, he would have won the court decision... but maybe not, it was stacked against him). Anyway, I left the Greens and joined (or rejoined) the Dems.
So, the day Obama signs this turd, I probably leave the Dems too.

18. 1) Pay the 'tax' 2) Don't get sick 3) Die quickly if I do. That's the plan, right? |
|
The 'tax' being the higher premiums, deductions and co-pays which I'll be paying which the bill does nothing to limit nor establish any means to control through competition outside of letting more poorly regulated insurance companies trying to rip me off using hidden terms and gotcha's.
The problem with your original set of suggestions is that THEY FUCKING KNOW THAT "THE RIGHT THING" TO DO IS, but THAT ONLY MATTERS IN A DEMOCRACY.
But it's not a Democracy. It's an AUCTION - AND WE'RE THE LOW BIDDER.

26. The honest answer - amend an existing one. |
|
I'm a fair trader. If they can take the loopholes out of the bill, fine.
I JUST DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING. LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENED. Do you REALLY see this as being little more than a bill WRITTEN BY AND FOR THE INSURANCE LOBBIESTS? Because I don't see that.
I understand that the dam is going to have holes, but let's start off with BASICALLY the right idea, and fix the little things.
Without the public option, ie: cost controls via competition, half of this bill (the mandates to buy private insurance) is a SICK JOKE.
I will ask you this:
Why don't they just take out the mandates, and the privately run welfare for the 30 million for now (it wouldn't do anything for 3-4 more years anyway), and just include the good parts?
for example:
Why do we need mandates to prevent insurance companies from DROPPING people who DEVELOP conditions? Why can't we just do that?
Why do we need mandates to eliminate lifetime limits? Why don't we just impose that? Why do we have to 'give' anything to them 'in return' for simply doing the right thing?
Why do we need mandates to limit medical loss ratios (the amount of money they keep versus the amount they pay out (the amount of that you benefit from)? Why don't we just tell them, in the absence of a true competitive market, that they are required to limit their ratios to 85/15 (instead of 70/30)
The ONLY THING the mandate is to provide is to tackle the poor and issue of preexisting conditions, ie: those who don't have insurance.
I just don't see how having the gov't give private insurers the management of that a good idea.
So take out the mandates, take out the universal coverage, etc. Keep in the good parts. Pass THAT.
Spend the next 2 years GETTING IT RIGHT.

22. I'm going to do what I am already doing |
|
I'm going to: 1) keep the calls and emails flowing 2) donate money to organizations that promote my values 3) pay attention to the big picture 4) continue to do all within my limited power to influence the opinions of others 5) do all that I can in 2010 and 2012 to punish/reward elected officials for their actions 6) continue to advocate nonviolent but dramatic action to instill fear in the hears of politicians
It is my opinion that our government is compromised, in the pockets of Wall Street, and no longer representative of the people. Party mean nothing to me--I have my beliefs, and the party either represents them or it doesn't. I'm tired of the lesser-of-two-evils argument used to perpetuate the status quo.

and never vote for a Dem that supported this piece of shit and lied to me. Sorry that includes you Wyden. I know it's a big club and you gotta play to get along-the senate-but this is my life. It's over. I will not vote anymore for politicians that lie about war and health care. No mas. Because going along to get along gets us nothing. We have nothing. I'm tired so tired of being blackmailed. I despise Republicons with every fiber of my being and have never voted for them and never will. But if in the end all I have is my pathetic vote-I will not give it anymore to those that enable these lies and evil. No mas!
