An easy way to learn geography with this blank, interactive world map.

I like to play around with this now and then to learn the countries of the world. I was inspired this time by reading about Yemen. I knew where Yemen was but I wanted to remember the countries around it and then moved over to Africa.

It's just an interesting little way to learn world geography.

9. Yeah, it's tough to see those little nations like Bharain or Qatar.

Even on my 28" monitor those are tiny, but if you zoom in on a particular region it does help.

like Transnistria, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia

4. Well, stupid me. I never even looked at the map as a game to be played.

I would just click on the blank areas to see and memorize the countries. Every once in awhile I would bring up the map and go around to see if I knew the countries of Europe, or Asia, or the Middle East, or Africa and try and memorize them.

One thing that inspired me was seeing this almost 2 year old little girl (she is really good, very cute, and very excited and happy about pointing out the world countries) and how she could point out countries on the map:

So many of us, particularly young people, are so abysmal at geography and cannot find important places like Iraq or Afghanistan or other countries that are simply embarrassing not to know their location.

5. The best way to learn geography and for your kids to learn...

is the old tried and true stamp collection. If, you can get your kids interested in the hobby. World wide stamps are inexpensive in packets and come from every country. Once a kid has handled these stamps, seeing what is pictured, finding out where it is, and mounting it in an album...they will know geography.

Also good for a family activity.

Cheap...time away from puters and tv and games...and knowledge that you really cannot get any other way other than actually traveling the world.

Old fashioned? Yup, but effective.
