Poll question: Big Tent vs. Small Tent |
|
Someone brought up an interesting point earlier today about a "big tent" vs. a "small tent." They basically said that the "big tent" isn't working out for us. On the other hand, the small tent is what the republicans are dealing with. So my question is....
Which do you prefer.... A big tent with 60 votes in the Senate and a large majority in the house or a small tent with 40 votes in the senate and a small minority in the House?

1. The size of the tent doesn't matter. |
|
What matters is which faction is in charge and I think we were much better off when the unions had a large say in the Democratic Party's policies.

2. But doesn't that bring up the argument that.... |
|
The unions will get most of their policies in a big tent vs. none in a small tent?

3. Small tents with a minority seems to give the GOP more power than we have now |
|
In fact having a majority seems to work against us getting anything meaningful through Congress.

4. I am not sure that small tent equals small majorities... |
|
The more ideologically pure we get, the less we are likely to have a majority at all.
I prefer a big tent with the power to set the agenda to a small tent where elected Democrats can not even hold meetings.
I remember what it was like under the Republican Majority.
I would say more and better democrats rather than an ideological purity witch hunt.

7. The problem with this is that "small tent" polices are what the majority of Americans want. |
|
Wheras "big tent" policies usually wind up selling out the vital interests of everyone but the ultra wealthy.
It has nothing to do with tents and everything to do with the agenda that will actually help Americans. Show them that and the GOP won't win an election for anything more important than dogcatcher anywhere but Alabama for 50 years.
But no, instead we piss around with terrible health insurance bills written to benefit the health insurance mafia. Is it any wonder that Democrats lose power as soon as we get it when this is all they fucking do?

8. It's time to retire the "big tent" meme. That just provides cover for DINO throwbacks. |

11. A tent that stands for something? |
|
A tent that gets bigger by touching & changing hearts, rather than changing policies to pander to the masses?
Is that option not available?
