My Letter to the President - Where is yours?
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 11:49 PM by libertypirate
I voted for a community organizer, not a corporate benefactor. I voted for person who once spoke of great dreams, used words like he meant them, and acted like he stood for something.

I won't give to your campaign on promise again; no time or money. You have already wasted what I have given you for nothing that I want.

I don't want corporations in charge of what they obviously don't value; the lives of my family being top of that list.

You have already become a fraction of the president you campaigned you would be. As a member of the growing liberal base your choice of Chief of Staff has never set well with me. The people have been compromised for years and we keep paying the price. We should not be compromising with people who would kill us for profit.

3. Thank you ...
I will. Mine will sound a great deal like yours only I am going to add some specifics. One of them is that by representing himself as he did during the campaign he gave me hope. All during the Bush years, I fought. I mailed, I called I ran a peace website until I got too sick from my MS to continue. But I never had hope. I felt like it was a holding action for basic survival. I was right, now I barely have that.

So when Obama campaigned on making this the country I remembered I bit like a starving Perch. Almost at once he began changing his priorities to make them different from his promises and to make them conform to Republican priorities. At first I couldn't believe it. Then I couldn't help but believe it. He went back on everything he promised us, and he is still trying to keep the support while he backpedals even more, like a kid who thinks everything is available if you lie convincingly enough. In the process I lost my hope. Now I am back in my Bush mindset, because other than speaking and acting like a liberal Obama has morphed into just one more self serving politician speaking out of both sides of his mouth. When I write my letter even though, I'm going to write about how he is stealing out hope, I don't expect anything from it. He doesn't care about that. None of them do. I'll just hammer away like I did with Bush. Aside from degree, really what is the difference anymore?

Telling, no? This was mine:

I am so disappointed in you and your putting the interests of health insurance companies, banks, and other corporate entities ahead of the welfare of the people who voted you into office - especially women and gays. I am disgusted and I will NOT vote for you again.

11. I send these but think WH laughs at them, better to not vote or vote write-in...
and not a dime to democrats. That sends a much more powerful message.

The realists and centrists in the new democratic party only know two things - cash and votes. Nothing, absolutely nothing else matters. They'd send their own mothers to Afghanistan if it meant cash and votes.

Take those away and you have influence. If we don't take those away, they will not fear us.

12. You are not allowed to say that, I had an OP locked for telling that truth..
We have been used for an agenda written by corporations.

People like Dean were pushed out as soon as they no longer needed him or us to get elected, and People like Rahm Emanuel were placed into positions of power so the triangulation and final betrayals could begin.

The DLC doesn't even have to win the elections (they can't because they are basically republicans), they have us to do that for them. After all, where are we gonna go? They feel they own us to use and abuse at will. The only way to stop this belief is to stop doing exactly as they expect and stop being dependable doormats that will be there on election day no matter how much they betray us.

It is time to end the charade where they ride the coattails of our progressive ideas only to govern like republicans.
It is time to stop being the beard that allows them to lurk in the shadows and pretend to believe in our platform.
It is time to run against them for a change and let them try to get elected on the corporate vision they truly wish to achieve.

It is time folks, the DLC must die within the party or we must oppose them from without.

This truth is verboten. I hope reprinting it here does not get this locked or me tomb-stoned, but my dad used to say, "truth doesn't hurt - lies hurt" It would seem that truth is important (it is to me), but some truths are forbidden it would seem...

38. It was attacked early by pod people (of the favored variety)
It had 18 recs and was locked before I could finish typing my second reply.
Mods are people too, sometimes the truth can hurt and with enough alerts...well, I understand I guess.

It is the reason I seldom write OPs (I think I have written 3 in 5 years.)
I tend to say things plainly, being extremely blue collar I have yet to learn the subtleties of politely beating around the bush.

It is meant to discourage the less polished among us to post and well, it worked with me, you can't discuss the reasons for a locking with the mod (not really) and I think I got the message.

I will speak my mind on the streets where it matters, usually among a group of 20 or more ever changing tradesmen on a build somewhere. We are not very polished but we are all feeling betrayed and ignored, a curse that appears to be present here as well.

They can not silence me out there!
They have challenged me to go out of my way now to spread the truth as far and (loudly) as I can in the real world!!

For this I thank the pod people, and the single mod that got caught up in the fury of the lynch mob of ideas :hi:

14. Great letter, libertypirate. Mine (there have been numerous) have been escalating in
intensity since the jettisoning of the PO began back in the summer months when the idjits started disrupting the town hall meetings.

I have sent several that were supportive of some policies and actions like Lily Ledbetter, but for the most part I've been expressing my unhappiness with the corporate mentality.

The Afghanistan West Point speech generated a barn-burner. The President's failure to protect our gay military members has precipitated a few choice ones. But, the healthcare debacle has been the tipping point.

I'm sure I'm now on their "ignore" list, but I fully intend to keep giving them my "feedback" until the bitter end.

Rec.

President Obama,

As a life long democrat I am sorely let down by your tone regarding the wars, healthcare and the plight of the working class in the United States of America.

I worked for your election, I believed in your words, but most of all, I voted for a change from the republican way of running our country like a corporation. I thought you were a different type of politician, but I was wrong.

I can see how the celeberity has changed you, and wonder if you were about everything you said while on the campaign trail.

No longer can I support the Democratic Party and in turn your administration.

I remain

37. Here's mine-file under why bother but oh, well.
This is not the first time I have written you but it may be the last. In the past when I wrote, I was suffering under the delusion that the opinions of the people were of some concern. With your support of this last version of the Health Care Reform bill it became apparent my emails had been a waste of bandwidth. Enshrining the place of the dishonest, private health insurance industry in our health care system and leaving people with no choice but to deal with them is just the latest example of corporatist policy I thought I had voted to end.
How sad for me to realize the hopes I had for your presidency were just pipe dreams. It was more moving than I can tell you to watch your historic victory in the election. It fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine. Sad to see that's where the dream ended.

Interesting side note: my captcha code was 'to deprave'

47. Here is mine
I posted this earlier under its own heading and yes, I sent it for all the good it will do. I think we need about 100k more like it to make any impression.

Dear Mr. President,
I am a 65-year-old liberal Democrat who enthusiastically supported you and voted for you.
Sadly, I can no longer do either. I, and many many others like me, feel we have been betrayed. The current bill on health care is a travesty of reform. It is nothing but a give-away to the health insurance industry and big pharma, which uses our taxes to make them even richer than they are already.
You have exhibited an utter lack of leadership, which is appalling given the mandate with which you were elected.
Your inaction and weak support for a strong public option and strong consumer protection from the insurance companies label you at best a sell-out, and at worst, a coward unwilling to stick his neck out and use his political clout to bring his party into line to pass meaningful reform. Your attitude vis-à-vis Joe Leiberman is particularly telling. An LBJ or FDR would have had him booted from the party and stripped of his chairmanship. Instead, you allowed a man who betrayed his own party to be not only privy to its strategies, but to remain in a position of power.
That’s like a General allowing a traitor to be one of his strategists and commanders.
You have demonstrated time and again a complete lack of good judgment in picking your advisors and have turned a deaf ear to the people's needs and concerns in the areas of credit, housing, small business, manufacturing, national infrastructure and balance of trade to name just a few.
I am truly so sad because I had such high hopes, and within one year you have completely destroyed them.
As of this moment, I will no longer support the DNC or your reelection bid. I will, however, continue to support individual progressive candidates, no matter where they are, in hopes that maybe something can be salvaged from this disaster.
Sincerely,
