Californians, is Jerry Brown the key.......
to real healthcare reform in this country? I've read that California may be ripe for a single payer system pending the election of a Democratic Governor. Is this the case? Will Jerry Brown support single payer legislation? Any chance that he loses to Meg Whitman? Thoughts are appreciated.

1. Jerry Brown would probably support it, yes.
And he and his dad both governed California during good times, so I believe that he would beat just about anyone.

2. Years ago, I wanted Jerry Brown early in the process, and ended
up with Mike Dukakis.

BTW, I like Jerry, but he's 70 now.

6. I think his age might help him.
It will harder for the media to tag him as "Governor Moonbeam" as they did during his primary runs (Dukakis and Clinton).

7. Jerry for Ca Gov is not the answer
Problem is, as with any monitary vote in California it takes 2/3 majority to pass any legislation that has taxes

8. I don't see that being discussed outside of liberal or progressive sites
California is mired so deeply in day to day operating problems that single payer will be way down the list out of necessity.

11. If they add any new entitlement here,
the state will collapse. It is already screwed as it is. We need someone brave enough to perform surgery on the state's finances

10. As A Life-long Californian
....I have always liked Jerry Brown. He was one of the first to suggest a "flat tax" that made sense. It actually made too much sense...he lost.

13. The bill is already in the legislature. It needs a governor who will sign it.
Jerry has always favored the single payer system.

He took on the oil corporations in the 1970's when it was unheard of.

He might just do this, too.

Big Brown supporter here.

15. How in the hell...
...could you ever get a single payer system to work in California, where all it takes is a handful of anti-tax activists in the legislature to screw everything up? Honestly, I wouldn't *want* to depend on the CA government for my health care. Jesus, I'd rather deal with the insurance companies.
