Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Walter Mondale in 1984
By appealing to working class men and women using Religion, Faux Patriotism, anti-tax, anti-immigration, and anti-communist rhetoric and the DLC convinced democrats the appropriate response was to sell out party principles to the big businesses that laid these workers off.

I'm reading that history right?

2. Just want to make sure
I was 3-11 when he was President. Sesame Street followed by transformers were more interesting than Reagan and the democratic party at the time.

during his debate with Carter.

A recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
A depression is when you lose your job.
A recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his job.

I said "oooh" and thought -- hey this guy could actually win.

6. And when he won he eliminated every tax bracket above 30%.

This benefited the rich in a huge way.

To this day we see the result of funneling billions back into the corpo's and sheltered private money stockpiles. The power to influence and shape legislation is firmly in the hands of big money and corpo interests.

The working stiffs, for lack of education and knowledge of basic history, were duped into buying the televised American dreams. This has ensured a class system where they are simply another natural resource to be harvested by big money.

7. That, a compliant media, and the October Surprise treason.
The October Surprise X-Files

That so many people voted for Pruneface also stands as an indictment of many American's disdain for higher education.

8. Iranian hostage crisis
Reagan won because of the Iranian hostage crisis. If the hostages would have been released, Carter would have won. Too much bad pr for Carter for months and months and months.

18. You hit the nail on the head
Though the massive inflation during the Carter presidency didn't help much either. The hostage rescue attempt was a massive boon doggle. The other big problem that worked against Carter, was the massive infighting within his administration. The same phenomenon reared its head during the last three years of Reagans second term.

the Democrats got the Presidency and a Congressional majority. I'm sure the Republicans would have accomplished much more in this time frame. Like scrapping the Constitution, crowning George W Bush King and Autocrat of All Americas and having several terror attacks.

One of the great regressive taxes of all time.

15. The Great Tax Cutter implemented the largest tax increase in post WWII history.
The 1982 Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act.

Per GDP and adjusted dollars.

The freeps always forget about that, conveniently.
