7. He'd just get chewed up like they did Howard Dean.
We need to work on changing the face of Congress again to a more progressive one, a really hard uphill push I know, and that will make the present White House to have to pull more to the left after 2010 and we don't have much time between now and November.

5. Great description of the business model
all those MBAs who took over the health insurance business came up with.

Whitehouse knows what is going on. RI needs to keep him.

8. The MBAs did the same thing to most of the businesses in this country...
Every area was run by "Business Majors" instead of people who knew the field itself.

I know that is why so many of the great retail stores are gone.

I worked in Information Technology for decades. We were doing fine until someone decided it would be better
to have MBAs run the IT instead of technical people. Instead of being a service department, they decided we had to become a cost center...
So instead of support for the company, we had to prove that we were worth supporting.

It was the end of an era of true creativity.

That is probably why so many of the really great ideas have come from those little companies that were started in someone's garage, by a college dropout. Of course, they would eventually fall into a similar trap....

11. I feel your pain
Especially the part about cost centers. Yep, prove to "us" while we should support your efforts.

I like to tell anyone who will listen about the time Ken Olsen held the door open for me. Some folks might find this strange, but to this day I consider it an honor. Of course, I quickly returned the courteous gesture by holding the inner door to the building open for him.

12. You should have seen what happened when they took over hospitals
that had been run by committees of doctors. Suddenly we were given pep talks on doing more with less as staffing was cut to dangerous levels and cautioned that patients were customers and we could no longer set limits, give instructions, or do anything but offer coffee around the clock. Oh, and we were to work mandatory extra 12 hour shifts at their convenience and in any specialty, cogs to be plugged into a machine.

It's completely insane, morale went right into the toilet, and they wonder why 50% of licensed RNs have left practice due to working conditions.

15. You reminded me of how those departments we had called "users", were to be called "clients"
Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 09:28 PM by BrklynLiberal
We all worked for the same company..but now they were to be called "clients".
It was all such a crock...

17. Exactly.
Owner/operators are shoved aside so know-it-all Ivy MBAs can implement their short term profit making schemes. An MBA can tell you everything about optimizing productivity and value-added accounting models, but absolutely nothing about how a product is made, why customers want to purchase it, or what the long term business goals are.

I have had many encounters with 20-something Harvard and Wharton MBA types over the years. Every last one has been a cliche' spewing fool, so shallow they could drown in a two inch puddle. I honestly believe that mindless mass acceptance of MBA program curriculum is at the heart of many of this country's current problems.

20. The GOP Is Not the Problem
The Democrats supposedly have the White House, the Senate and the House. Why should the Republicans even be an issue?

The Democrats are doing fine fucking everything up all on their own.
