Drunk 4-year-old boy steals neighbour's Christmas presents
Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 07:47 PM by HughMoran
(This story is sad)

A four-year-old boy got drunk and stole presents from under a neighbour's Christmas tree, his mother said.

Hayden Wright was found wandering his neighborhood in Chatanooga, Tennessee in the middle of the night with a beer in his hand. He was wearing a little girl's dress taken from under his neighbor's tree.

His mother April Wright, 21, woke at 1.45am. and realised he was missing.

She found him outside in the street, drinking a 12-ounce can of beer, she said.

Hayden was taken to hospital and treated for alcohol consumption.

His mother said: "My biggest concern was him being out there, getting kidnapped, getting run over, the alcohol, having to have his stomach pumped."

She said Hayden runs away, trying to find his father, who is in prison. Miss Wright is currently divorcing him.

"He wants to get in trouble so he can go to jail because that's where his Daddy is," she said.

The boy had managed to get through a child-proof door and get a can of beer out of a cooler behind the house, she said.

He then got into the neighbor's house through an unlocked door and stole five Christmas presents.

I hope his family gets the help they desperately need.

I must have misread your "...but sorta funny" part.

Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 07:50 PM by rocktivity
who is mom is divorcing. It doesn't get any sadder than that.

He desperately needs a male mentor. Is there an uncle or other relative who could step in?

11. A child's logic is USUALLY funny
Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 08:10 PM by rocktivity
Like my believing that since people with dark brown skin made brown shit, people with white skin made white shit. A generation later, I had to explain to my niece why the lima beans we planted sprouted, but the jelly beans she planted didn't.

This kid has decided to follow in his father's footsteps and be "bad" enough to land in jail with him: running away, underage drinking, breaking and entering, burglary, cross-dressing--that ought to do it.

:(

22. I didn't say that there wasn't a tragic element...
...but a drunk 4-year-old in a dress is always gonna be a funny thing.

You have to appreciate the humor in life, even when it stems from tragedy.

15. I'm sorry, this sounds like bullshit.
I cannot accept that a four year old can comprehend the relationships of crime and punishment. That's an incredibly bright kid. To the point of sounding like a hoax. With no further information, we're asked to believe that he foiled some sort of childproof room (also not explained), broke into a house and knew that public drunkeness and disorderly conduct could land him in jail. Really? At FOUR?

Sorry, call me suspect. Sounds like one of the type of amazing hardship stories which pop up every year to make the rest of feel better about our own miserable situations.

Of course, I could be wrong.

18. i agree with atman---
this came from a UK paper---any US papers as a cite?

i also don't believe that a 4 yr old has the ability to come up with this idea, as he supposedly did--and i have 6 yr old granddaughters, who are pretty wise to the ways of their world, and at 4, would not have even had a concept of this without some adult encouragement.

having said that....i could be wrong, too.

19. While the "crime" sounds reasonable the story sounds like bullshit
Sounds to me like Mom's no princess either. How does a 4 year old get a beer without his mother knowing? And then start wandering around the neighborhood alone? Man, while I don't like to smother I had to watch my kids like a hawk at that age. They were into everything.

24. You've got a point. After reading the other provided...
...it seems like the kid sure as shit got outside late at night. But he seems to be a virtual Houdini, if you believe the Mom's version. And even if the kid really did do everything she said, she lost me when she got to the "following her fathers footsteps" bullshit. How does she know this? Sounds like projection to me. She's trying to make up stories for the Child Protective Services people in order to cover her own sorry ass. I still there is no way this kid had any concept of his behavior equating to arrest > jail time with daddy. Bull-fucking-shit.

26. The mom is surely messed up
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 09:19 AM by HughMoran
How would the kid know about such sophisticated concepts as "getting in trouble to go to jail - just like his dad" and why would they give him the details of his fathers incarceration in the first place at such a young age? You're right - there's something messed up with the mother - perhaps mental illness - I don't know.
