Relax, contributions to corporate tyranny are completely unenforceable. Taxing isn't collecting. |
|
I am working on an article right now on this subject and will post it later, but it is quite clear that this would be the event horizon of our Federal system if HCR were to go through as many here have commented (Mandate, no public option).
Now, I am not saying we would see a full scale insurrection or shooting war (but we might). Rather, we would see an "economic insurgency" that would force all of us, ESPECIALLY Progressives, to deal with very hard questions of essentially dismantling and starving a system we all used to believe in very deeply. A system that is now completely infected by and sustained via the tumorous symbiosis of the corporatocracy. Like all tumors, feed the body, feed the cancer, the true tragedy of the commons.
Under this scenario, the stark reality is that many progressives WILL join the Tea Party Movement (I won't use the pejorative), and put differences aside to mount a common offensive. The tribalism that engenders so much vitriol in the culture wars of RW vs. Left, is the same tribalism that will, IMHO, emerge to beat the nameless and the faceless organizations back into their dusty sheds.
There is already rapidly increasing evidence that portions of the Federal system are completely unable to affect or enforce individual standards and provisions.
So don't worry about it, they can't fight or jail everyone, and this is shaping up to be one hell of a populist uprising.

1. It's not symbiosis if only one is destined to survive. It's parasitism. |

I remember very little from high school biology, but I think I got this correct.

2. I don't see this happening |

I guess it depends on the meaning of the word Many and how progressive said progressive are. But you have to remember that to the Tea Party Movement, Liberals aren't just wrong; we are bad people who want to ruin America and who, wittingly or unwittingly, serve Satan. Allying with us, well, it's just unthinkable.
A few might slip over, but they would likely be more progressive than populist.

3. Jane Hamscher is already talking about the issues that unite the left and right |
|
and she is getting positive responses from both sides.
when she was on the Ed S. show and kept asking Lanny Davis who he works for, all he could offer was a personal attack on her for some poor judgment on a political attack against Lieberman years ago. That is what most Americans know of Washington deal making.
this populist anger is what I have already said on this forum - that this is going to be part of the backlash.
I'm not happy about this but the DLC-ers, etc. are seriously miscalculating the level of rage out here beyond the beltway. I see this among the poor, the underemployed, the self-employed, small business owners...
FDR was able to stop the forces of anger that bought about real fighting in the streets over the carcass of unregulated capitalism by jobs creation programs, bank regulations, taxes on the wealthy... ConservaDEMS ignore the real problems among the middle classes and poor to continue to reward the rich lobbyists at their peril.

8. i read that article, too |
|
think it's correct
if progressives don't find the power to reach out to this populist rage, and channel it, the rethugs will be a real problem
it's an opportunity for progressives, to educate the enraged masses as to who/what the real culprit is

10. She's obviously struck a nerve, judging by the "kill the messenger" posts on DU today. |
|
To which I say, keep bringing it, Jane! She is one of the few who recognizes the very important need to NOT let the conservatives accumulate the populist rage energy.
