What leverage do we have over Lieberman?
We could take away his chairmanship. We could kick him out of the caucus.

Any other ideas?

2. That's up to the people back home - hopefully they take the hint though
I guess he will have to try for the Democratic nomination.

MoveOn.org's raising money to throw that SOB out.

3. ZERO.
Obama and the Congress has let this bully take their lunch money one too many times. He knows we got nothing.

5. Actually I'd say that the fact that we have no leverage enabled him to be the bully
He knew that he was a pivotal swing vote and squeezed every drop out of it. We need him a helluva lot more than he needs us.

15. It's a shit bill.
It is in no way shape or form what I voted for in 2008, 2006, 2004... well, you get the idea.

16. I get that, but even if it were single payer, we'd still need to get 60 votes. nt

17. You could pass single payer, from what I understand,
through reconciliation because it's a budget item. I could be wrong, I'm not a policy wonk.

I don't want to fight with you all day man, I just don't like the bill. We've been hosed.

I'm stilly a little hazy on how the whole reconciliation process works.

7. Kick him off the chairmanship, piss him off enough, he becomes a republican, and
we will be vulnerable to filibuster

Best strategy is to get rid of the filibuster, then remove him from his chairmanship

If you can't do that, then work to defeat him in re-election

21. Becomes? Don't you mean until he outs himself as a Republican?
He IS a Republican with his lips glued to Dick Cheney's ass and has been there for years and years. I think they have blackmail photos of him golfing with Satan.

22. No, he is an independent standing with the Democrats. The other alternative is to
make him irrelevant, and elect more Democrats in the Senate, then you don't need him

8. The Unions Have Leverage...
They're still one of his biggest contributors...they're as responsible as Karl Rove for his victory over Ned Lamont.

We (assuming you're not a Connecticut resident) have little we can do other than put pressure on Democratic Senators to backbench Droopy. But as long as Reid is leader and desperately want's "comity", Joe will keep sticking it to us.

9. We have a single bullet. You can only kick him out once
so the threat is there, but not very effective.

10. WE? NONE! I heard an analyist yesterday talking about how LBJ would have
handled Lieberman. "He would have called him to his office, closed the door and said ""Joe, do you want to keep your Chairmanship? Do you ever want another penny from the Federal Gov't for roads in Ct? Do you want to see Medicare reimbursements to Ct. suddely seem to get lost? NO??? I need you vote on this bill, now get back to work!"" Seems to me that's the way it SHOULD have been done! Unfortunately that's jjust not Obama's style.

11. Pull every Federal dollar out of Connecticut until they SCREAM???
If they can increase Federal spending in states they can DECREASE in others.

Howz about giving THAT a try? FOR ONCE. (and for every state that has two Republican Senators)

Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 12:41 PM by ddeclue
cut his office and staff budget, cut him off in debate, move his parking place to Maryland, whatever it takes!

24. How much money has he raised?
Will the CT Democratic Party support his re-election?

Does the CT Democratic Party or county level parties invite him to functions?

Where do the Jewish organizations and synagogues stand with him?

Has anyone considered going through Jewish related connections to crush Lieberman's nuts?

Has anyone considered irritating the hell out of his wife's employer?
