Would you support HCR?
For those currently being supportive of Obama and the senate on the current health care reform bill, I have a simple question.

IF, the exact same bill was being proposed and passed by a GOP lead congress, and pushed by a GOP president, and he was claiming it was the BEST he could do, would you still be supporting it in its current form?

Discuss.

1. Very good question.
I hope you get some honest answers.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

3. Probably not, but not because it would be the same bill.
I wouldnt support it because it was a GOP bill & they lie so much I would be positive there was something in there that was awful!

I felt the same about the prescrition drug bill that THEY forced through at 3 or 4 in the morning! I canceled my membership in AARP and sent my membership card back to them over that one. It turns out it's not TOO bad after we've been using it for a while, but I don'pt feel I can trust them on anything!

4. Well it's hard to imagine this specific bill passing a Republican Congres
with a Republican President.

I guess their are two possibilities - things had disintegrated to such a level that GOP felt they had to do something and this was it. Or the GOP became much more Moderate than they are now.

In either case, I probably would support the bill.

I am guessing that is counter to the storyline you would prefer to push though.

8. They'd never get away with it. And they know it.
That's the only thing stopping them from passing subsidies for insurance co.s, and penalties for people who don't line insurance co. pockets with forced purchases. The Democrats would tear them apart if Repubs tried this.

9. Not exactly
But they DID pass roughly this same bill, it was called Medicare part D, and the democrats panned the hell out of that. I'll presume you were a supporter of that bill too. The AARP was, and we crucified them for it. Strangely, one of the core issues of that bill was the "no negotiation" features and the democrats cried bloody murder, and it is now a center piece of the current administration position.

12. +1. Continue to speak the TRUTH, please.
Some posters on this board continue to refuse to hear it.

Kill the bill.

Because the country has been moved so far to the right by the media.

10. Rockefeller Republicans
I was thinking more "rockefeller" republicans. Basically the old northeast banking crowd. They were driven out of the GOP by the whole Reagan coaltion. However, as we can see, they are basically still "allied" with the GOP. They got medicare part D passed under Bush II and now they are going to get health insurance reform passed under Obama.

11. good point. TY!
I remember Goldwater warning against the religious right owning the Republicans, and his soft line on gays, etc.
But my memory is hazy at times for sure.

13. Right..like that would EVER happen...
Would you support the Bill if an Alien flew down here and presented it? I mean get real. Republicans are now and have been forever opposed to the Government helping the people. If the government can funnel money to Corporations through No-Bid Contracts then they will support it otherwise it will NEVER happen.

15. Sorry Medicare Part D
Contrast and compare what the GOP passed as part of Medicare Part D and what the dems are passing for this "reform". Heck, if anything the dems are being far more fiscally "conservative" than what the GOP passed. Truth is, the GOP would have loved to pass something like this, much like this, with the abortion restrictions, and the mandatory business for health insurance companies as well as a 10 year "deal" with big Pharma (and its continuing support of contributions). This bill reeks of "compasionate conservatism".
