Let's hear it for all of the republicans who helped pass HCR. |
|
Oh wait. Not one did. Not one , as Howard Dean said, "lifted a finger" to improve and/or save the lives of fellow Americans.
They, and not Obama, are still the enemy.

Republicans named Lieberdouche, Nelson, Baucus, Landrieu, etc.

7. "Bi-partisanship" took so much out of this bill... |
|
...and still not a single republican voted for it. Let's try and make sure the House puts some things back into the bill I guess.

They have really screwed the pooch on this one. Lockstep "NO" votes against the will of the people is political suicide.
Expect them to start talking a LOT about how they're going to retake the Senate in 2010.

|
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 01:21 PM by ixion
can you blame them? No more than you can blame the dems for doing it in the first place.
They played the dems like a fiddle, and got something for their corporate overlords to boot. They will be able to turn around and use the populist moniker, however unfounded, to chastise the dems in 2010.

11. Neither did Obama "lift a finger" to help America or Americans who need health care ... |
|
Obama abandoned every opportunity he had to move to public option, single payer,
Medicare for All -- and did none of those things.
What Obama has continued to do is to guarantee profits for corporations, big pharma
and to collect $$$ for his next corporate campaign!!!
What a joke!!

14. I normally agree with you. |
|
And I must confess that I don't know enough about this bill's specifics to argue with you. But I don't see how billions for community clinics is a bad thing, not the expansion of medicaid. If this bill covers millions of poor people, how can it be that bad? Obama probably knew that there was no way the usual suspects were going to pass a public option.

18. You don't understand how cementing corporations/corporatism into medical care is harmful? |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 01:59 PM by defendandprotect
You don't understand how $600 BILLion/$800 BILLION for the insurance/pharma companies
is harmful?
You don't understand privatization and its harms?
You don't understand the harm privatization has done to Medicare ... in the drug program?
You don't understand this as another give-away to corporations?
I'm sure one could find many isolated "good things" about the bill . . . however the very premise
of it is based on corporatism/fascism -- which is why we needed health care REFORM!!
And, meanwhile, Howard Dean and others have suggested the reverse -- there there are greater
evils hidden in this legislation --
It will also shift 15 of the 30 million into Medicaid . . . did we need this HC DEFORM to do that?
I'm sure there are people who can read Obama's mind . . . I don't try.
I watch what he says, I watch how he walks away from what he says --- and I watch how he goes
after corporate money.
The latest deal -- perhaps you've read here - was with the pharma companies NOT to permit
negotiation on drug prices. What did Obama get for that ? Catch up with the article here
at DU.
If I come upon it again, I'll add the link here --
And let me just add that this pattern of privatizing our social programs will not end with
this disgusting outing -- it will move to Social Security and Medicare --
And a party betraying its alleged ideals for corporatism so openly portends a dangerous future
for democracy and the poeple.

19. Of course I understand. |
|
But as far as I'm concerned America's end began with the JFK assassination, and the stealing of the 1980 and the 2000 elections pretty much sealed the deal. There is no getting around corporatism/fascism at this point. And what politician can get elected without tons of money these days?
The military and corporations run this country, not Obama, and not us. Still, there are some good things in this bill, but I am angry about the lack of public option. Very angry. But if a couple of republicans would have given their help, we would probably have a public option. And that is why I can't entirely trash the democrats.
I agree with most of your response. I did start a thread last week entitled, "Enjoying Health Care Reform? Social Security is next" which of course sank like a stone. I think Cali posted the same idea the next day and it got a gazillion responses.

21. And, exactly what I say . . . i.e., Medicare & Social Security will be next . . . |
|
However, according to our own lights, we proceed --
I've long recognized fascism rising in America -- and continue to try to fight it.
I wouldn't consider making a compromise with it.
Best wishes -- Happy Holidays to you and your family ---
And may the Winter Solstice truly bring us the LIGHT of wisdom!!

17. They may yet vote for it, some of them. |
|
If there aren't enough Dems. to pass this turd, I suspect the health insurance industry and big pharma will twist enough Republican arms to make it happen.
Those two groups really, really want this bill to pass.
Kill the bill. Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.
