atleast that's what I've been told by a few DU members today.

The amount of stupidity here lately in this regard is absolutely amazing. Apparently if the corporate whore raping you has a (D) after their name you should bend over and enjoy it. And if you don't you need to get the hell out because as I am constantly reminded this is the Democratic Underground.

Anyone remember Joe Lieberman? Remember the arguments being made at the time of his re-election about how he is a democrat so he should be elected? Nevermind, I digress.

As someone that has been here for years I am not discouraged by this, most people here are still smart intellectual independent thinkers. For those few that don't know how to think for themselves I have a message for you that you'll probably understand:

2. yeah, there is a small but distinct group of DLC lovers here
that muddy the waters with their party line spin.

Funny thing is they weren't nearly so vocal when the other team was in the WH.

7. It comes from the "Father Knows Best" sycophant wing of the party.
Who would love to ban this Democrat:

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." --Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." --Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

10. Gotta love Jefferson
He answered the front door of the Whitehouse in his house slippers and robe; abandoned all the presidential pomp of George Washington; road his horse around the country where he could talk to people himself.

8. Actually as has been demonstrated several times it is the reverse
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 01:33 PM by dmallind
Anybody who actually supports almost any action or priority of the party is constantly told they are a corporatist shill, DLC traitor, Reublican stooge, paid provocateur, and so on. Every DU poll I've ever seen listing the most reviled opinion has identified the moderate and centrist wing of the party as the top by a mile.

You sound like Christians complaining about being oppressed.

12. Oh please. Yes, if someone supports every action or priority of the party is a shill
It is idiotic to support a party 100%. No independent thinker will ever fall inline with what a party platform is. If they do they have other motivations.

20. You just stated the definition of a shill:
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 02:20 PM by girl gone mad
"Anybody who actually supports almost any action or priority of the party"

That's what a shill is.

shill, n., - a decoy who acts as an enthusiastic customer in order to stimulate the participation of others

The occasional supporter says that but if you are saying that characterizes this whole board i don't think you are reading very carefully.

19. I'm not thrilled with the way this HRC legislations has evolved BUT
given the tone and tenor of some of the erstwhile "progressives" on this board recently, I have no doubt that there are disruptors among us too. Note that I said SOME. It is my experience that screaming red in the face doesn't further much and it certainly doesn't attract support. I don't see this issue as a dead or unworkable right now. I do see a lot a people claiming to know what is best for the sick and the poor and the disenfranchised and willing to sell those people out on all sides--the left included.

I've been on these boards from the beginning, and I'm disgusted by what I see lately. No one is asking anyone to not critique or to object, but I'll be damned if I will live under another R regime in the future--especially given the dregs of the RW barrel that those folks have dredged up.

28. I've been in the party a lot longer than most of those swinging the banner aggressively.
It's not THEIR party to rule. It's our party, and we all have a piece of it. This site is largely peopled by progressives, and we always have issues with mainstream Democrats and their willingness to accommodate nefarious business interests.

It's a big tent, and if they don't like that, they need to find an exit, not us.
