Poll question: What do you feel is the main reason the Dems won by such big margins in 2008? |
|
The Dems enjoyed impressive wins both for the White House and Congress. Which of these do you feel were the root cause.

2. They were not the republicans and Obama did a great job in his campaign |
|
He mobilized and energized a lot of voters. Also, some republicans stayed home which also helped.

5. Obama energized the Democratic base which turned out in |

larger numbers. The Republican base wasn't excited about McCain and that depressed Republican turnout. Democrats fielded moderate-conservative candidates in red-purple districts and took some traditional Republican seats. Democrats put together a better ground game and raised enough money to do a good job of late, target advertising. Many, many factors alligned to Democrats advantage.

They read and manipulated the electorate perfectly. They dressed up a neo-liberal as a democratic socialist and successfully sold it.

The people were pissed off at the party of B*sh and Ch*ney. That simple. We can only hope they will be at least as pissed off at them next year.

10. People voted against Bush and the Republicans because they were an obvious catastrophe. |
|
Obama was decidedly "not Bush".
He still isn't but the differences are getting blurry.

11. False dichotomy, embedded in the mechanism of a DU poll. Cute. |

The correct answer, of course, is "1 and 2".

14. Economy + Bush + failure of Republican Conservatism = Democratic Power |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 02:40 PM by Ozymanithrax
Americans were already feeling frightened from the pinch of economic collapse and Democrats successfully pleased the blame on Bush while Republicans reacted to the collapse of their economic ideology by raising the specter of Socialism.
Because we are a two party system and Democrats are the only viable alternative, they reaped the benefit.

15. As your poll indicates, 2008 was more a Republik loss than a Democratic victory. |
|
And after this dismal performance, we can look forward to many more Republiks that we can blame for the utter lack of principles or meaningful action after 2010.
Congratulations to the NewBlue3rdWayDLCDogs! You've pissed away a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and ensured increased suffering and misery for millions, way to go!

That's why we won. It was ours to lose, and we didn't.

|
Which I contend was...not what it appeared to be and didn't say anything good about the candidates themselves.
