Today's ABC This Week - In Memoriam |
|
When I watched the end of "This Week" this morning, Stephanopoulos setup the 'In Memoriam" segment like he usually does.
In addition to the usual obituaries for famous dignitaries, and military deaths for the week, the obituaries went through most, if not all, of the 32 VT deceased. It was a particularly long segment, and I couldn't help think while they were showing it that a vast number of family members and acquaintances might also be watching if they are familiar with the "This Week" obituary segment of the program.
I don't know why I thought of such a thing, but I was also thinking that the TV commercial that comes on immediately after this segment has to be very tasteful, because of the sensitivity of those particular friends, families, and acquaintances that just experienced seeing their loved one's name on the TV screen and are at that time reacting in sorrow to it.
So what comes on as "In Memoriam" ends?, "Join the Lunesta 7 night sleeping pill challenge" x(
I may just be a cynical SOB, but I couldn't help but think that some MBA sum bitch in the advertising biz, purposely targeted that particular time slot with that particular sleeping pill ad, to play on the fact that these poor folks of the deceased are probably not sleeping very well right now.
I did not think that ad was in good taste. It struck me as a "Hey, let's take a shot at making a profit from their pain if we can" kind of an ad in what I feel is a corporate and government atmosphere of crocodile-tears.
Did any one else see the "In Memoriam" segment and take notice of this, or am I just being a cynical curmudgeon that should go back in my lair and take my meds?

by Lunesta ads seem to pop up like weeds around every news report of a tragedy.
