6. I see nothing to protest
The last of the marines are getting ready to leave Iraq and we continue standing down.

No need at all to protest the Iraq War any more.

9. Did the OP say this was an IRAQ War protest?
No. It's a war protest. And we're still at war, bombing civilians and killing off our own sons, daughters, fathers and mothers. And wasting billions of dollars that could be used for job creation and real healthcare for citizens here at home.

11. we are leaving thousands of troops there and mercenaries
to guard the precious oil interests. dont believe the propaganda.
and Bush and Cheney are not being investigated for war crimes or starting an illegal occupation.

there is a reason for that, too.

15. Answer ( at least here in mass) does do a good job organizing busses
Not saying they are perfect, but I did appreciate the work they have done in the past.

19. I used to catch the Rhode Island ANSWER bus here in CT.
we would meet in a parking lot nearby and they would stop along the way and pick a bunch of us up. CT had an ANSWER chapter the last time I went to DC.

we call it "the commie bus"

18. i can get to DC cheap going on an ANSWER bus. I use them
for the ride then split until i need to head back. If ANSWER is involved, despite their reputation, they will get people to DC. they are good for logistics.

And it is, you know.

14. Wish I could
I took a long bus ride from WI to DC to protest the Iraq war and would do it again to protest the Afghanistan war but I'm now physically unable to do it. It's hell getting old.

20. a march against war is a march FOR the money being spent on social needs
rather than endless wars for profit.

I consider the money spent for endless wars (52,000 a minute) the elephant in the room right now.

we need to recognize that endless wars will keep us from things like health care and fixing whats wrong HERE.

so, this is a march FOR health care as much as any march. Its a march against the military industrial complex that is destroying this country.

22. like i said...when there's a march FOR healthcare- i'll be there.
as long as people keep volunteering to join the military, what's the point of using my energy to protest against it's use...?

Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 07:36 PM by dysfunctional press
we all have to choose our battles.

besides- every single u.s. soldier in either occupation VOLUNTARILY joined the military, so i don't really have a lot of sympathy to waste on them.

26. and the occupations cost could be covering health care
54,000 a minute is what we spend on these occupations. think about it. if we didnt spend that, its money that could go to provide healthcare. connect the dots.

add to that the outrage I would think you might feel that we are MURDERING people in other countries, millions of them.
and murdering our own personnel. for nothing.

27. what makes you think it would?
if both occupations ended tomorrow- it doesn't mean that one cent of the money would be applied toward healthcare.

we are MURDERING people in other countries, millions of them.

could you please back that figure up with some kind of citation? so many people throw unsubstantiated numbers around that they become utterly meaningless without some kind of reference.

it seems that war is your issue.
healthcare is mine.

we all have to choose our battles.
sorry- that's just how things work.

call me when there's a march FOR healthcare- i can even fit another 6 people in the van for the drive to dc.

30. you said "millions" have been killed, and that doesn't seem to pan out.
"more than a million"

"1.36 million"

but not "millions".

when you give false figures, you undercut the veracity of your own argument, and come across as over-wrought.
and as has been pointed out upthread- we are already definitely winding down our presence in iraq as it is.

if you want to protest the wars, that's fine, and your right.
everyone has their own ideas/opinions about what the most important issue for the country is right now.
some say war, some say the environment/global climate change, some say jobs, some say deficit reduction, some will ALWAYS say it's abortion...
for my money & effort- it's healthcare.

more power to you. :hi:
