Sen. Whitehouse: There Will Be A 'Reckoning' For GOP's 'Desperate, No-Holds-Barred Mission Of Propaganda' (VIDEO)

http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/12/sen-whitehouse-there-will-be-a-reckoning-for-gops-desperate-no-holds-barred-mission-of-propaganda.php

On the Senate floor yesterday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) slammed Republicans for their "desperate, no-holds-barred mission of propaganda, falsehood, obstruction and fear," which he said will result in a "day of judgment" by the American people.

Whitehouse began his monologue by quoting 1950s intellectual Richard Hofstadter, warning that a right-wing minority could create "a political environment in which the rational pursuit of our well-being and safety would become impossible."

1. Sure would be nice if we were to hear words like this from THE Whitehouse

but unfortunately, they're too conflict averse to state the obvious- and pound it home to advance an effective policy agenda.

Dr. Westen had a zinger on point in his recent piece of analysis:

<They're> increasingly appearing to the public, and particularly to swing voters, like Dukakis without the administrative skill.

2. Different positions allow for different types of comments
When debating right wingers/republicans I would often fault Bush and his administration for openly bashing the Dems and liberals. I would ask him how could a president speak that way about a large number of law abiding American citizens.

Now that the tables are turned how can I suggest President Obama should do the same thing. He may have been elected by a little over half the citizens but he is everyone's President.

3. That's not the President's job.
The WH sought bipartisanship from the beginning, it failed, and we're now moving on without the Republicans. It's a done deal.

Did you want Obama to get on camera and cry about it some more? Republican obstruction is a fact, it's in the congressional record and every American who cares about politics already knows it exists. No more political capital need be spent rubbing it in.

Keep it up Senator.
