AMA backs Senate healthcare bill
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- The Senate healthcare reform bill got the backing Monday of the American Medical Association, which said Americans deserve "high-quality health coverage."
The bill, which passed a critical procedural hurdle Monday, includes several benefits for meaningful reform, the medical association said in a release. It also would improve choice and access to affordable health insurance coverage and eliminate denials based on pre-existing conditions.
"All Americans deserve affordable, high-quality health coverage so they can get the medical care they need -- and this bill advances many of our priority issues for achieving the vision of a health system that works for patients and physicians," AMA President-elect Dr. Cecil Wilson said.
Much work needs to be done, Wilson said, pledging to maintain the AMA's advocacy on behalf of patients and physicians by conferring with lawmakers.
