Obama Last Chance With Progressives - Pick & Win A Fight And Give Progressives a GOD DAMN Victory!
I truly want Obama to succeed and I think his last chance to regain the trust of the Democratic wing of the Democratic party is to pick a fight and win a battle for progressives. It is the only thing that I can think of that might mitigate the political disaster he and Rahm have created in this last year.

I would offer that Obama should take on campaign finance reform or any subject related to restoring some balance between corporate interests and public interests in our government. I am sure there are other fights that Obama might choose, but he had better do SOMETHING significant for progressives or we will see just how pissed off they have become in the next election cycle and one after that. Continuing to deliver for corporate interests in such a transparent manner will lose my vote for sure and I am sure that of many others as well.

In short, give us a god damned victory or go away!

1. But if he fights for something he might lose. Can't risk that!

Better just to float above it all and make a pretty speech now and then.

22. I think that his extreme aversion to conflict is his single greatest weakness,

and if anything keeps him from succeeding, it will be that.

3. Bank Regulation and Green house gas emissions are already on the table...
He doesn't have to pick a fight, the issues are there and Republicans and Corporations will oppose what ever he takes up.

Obama and the Democrats will be vigourously opposed at every step.

4. Except Obama's proposals in both areas are already a corporation's wet dreams.
Sure, they'll make a show of opposing it just like the health insurance industry did, but in the end they'll get everything they wanted and we'll get fucked once again.

7. Sorry, I do not accept the myth of the Corporotocracy...
Corporations and Republicans do not make a show of opposing of controling green house gas emissions and the fight agaisnt global warming, they spend vast amounts of money, time, and effort to defeat it.

9. You misunderstand. There is no fight against greenhouse gasses
Just as there is no healthcare reform, just as there will be no financial reform. Corporations will fight against it just on the principle of opposing ANY regulation, but there won't be any real reform in the bill that passes -- because no real reform is being proposed to begin with.

25. In our heart of hearts, we must pause if only for a moment & ask, "why in the hell is Goldman Sachs,
et al pushing so hard to see Cap & Trade pass?" And once having asked that, never let anyone say in the future they did not see it coming.

8. Limbaugh Loves Obama!
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 10:21 PM by Vinnie From Indy
The fat drug addict is simply orgasmic with all the new material he can trot out to his idiot legions. The mandate is manna from heaven and the Ben Nelson bribery is a slow pitch across the plate. No, you are wrong about Limbaugh's feelings on Obama. Limbaugh gets a twofer with Obama. He gets what his corporatist allies have always wanted AND he gets material to whip up the mob into voting in a GOP led Congress in 2010.

We're still on pace to be (mostly) out of Iraq in 2011, aren't we?

12. "some " and "mostly" are the operative words here.
A lot of room for "interpretation". We'll all have to wait till 2011 to know what the official "interpretation" will be.

13. As long as we maintain our trajectory, we'll be fine.
The goal makes sense. We'll just have to see how the implementation works out.

18. Yes, Mr. President, please throw us a bone!!!!
And all will be forgiven and forgotten. Please! We don't expect much and we don't ask much. Just don't be a Republican, that is all.

We think you are the greatest. We are behind you no matter what. Come hell or high water. Don't let anyone make you think otherwise!

no point in trying to placate the empty-threats - most other victories this past year were barely discussed here.

24. I vote, "Do nothing put pick Justices for the Courts for the next three years."
I don't want Obama to "go away." I just want him to stop trying to fix things. In most cases, he has made the situation worse. I hope he limits himself to just nominating Federal Judges for three years.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.
