Politico tweet: Rep. Parker Griffith (D-AL) switching to Republican party today

Rep. Parker Griffith, a freshman Democrat from Alabama, will announce this afternoon that he’s switching parties to become a Republican.

ADDED: Back in August:
In a statement likely to intensify the GOP assault on Speaker Nancy Pelosi's reign, a first-term Democratic "blue dog" congressman said that he would not vote to make her the top House Democrat again. Rep. Parker Griffith, a former oncologist from Alabama, told a town hall meeting this week that Pelosi is too divisive to be speaker. "I would not vote for her ," he added. "Someone that divisive and that polarizing cannot bring us together."

1. Why bother with the rigmarole?
Republicans seem to be more than welcome in the Democratic party.

2. not a big surprise
While Griffith's district hasn't elected a repub to congress since the dawn of time, it also hasn't voted for a Democrat for president in over 30 years and every county in the district went for McCain over Obama. Griffith only won with 52 percent of the vote, so shifting over the repub side is his way of making sure he gets reelected.

7. One of Emanuel's recruits?
Most of the D's from conservative areas are DINOs at best.. I'd rather they show their true colors BEFORE people vote for them

Good riddance, Parker
