SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Ellen Schmidt and her family live in Land Park, along with their cat Cocoa Nut. About two weeks ago, Cocoa Nut disappeared.

Despite several searches in the neighborhood, they said they never found him.

On Monday though, Cocoa Nut turned up at Schmidt's work at Joann's Fabrics store in the Arden area and nearly 12 miles from their home.

"When I looked at her, I couldn't believe it. I ran out the door and still expecting it not to be true, it was Cocoa, and she's been gone for two and a half weeks, and it was her. All the customers who had been there say she was fighting frantically to get in the store," Schmidt said.

Schmidt said everyone she works with is talking about the feline phenomenon.

4. Awww. Nice story. I had a similar experience with my cat.

My sister in law died suddenly and I went out to my brother's in Manitoba for a month to help with the kids, leaving my kitty with someone (though only about a mile and a half from my home). It was a brutally, nasty cold month, just before Christmas ..... he took off shortly after he got there, never returning. A month and a day after I left him I heard a scratch at my door. It was Hobo, dirty, skinny and hungry ..... but he made it through freezing weather, dodged all the coyotes, and through town, to get back. He'd never been out of the yard before, so I was amazed he knew his way. Miracles do happen.

5. This time of year this is pretty easy to explain. The cat gets into the
warm engine compartment during the night. One gets up to go to work, starts the car and the lucky cats find and stay in a safe place as they are transported to work. (unfortunate cats do not find the safe place and are usually thrown from the engine out the front wheel well, hopefully not into on coming traffic, usually this is within blocks of home, and if not injured will return home with no one the wiser). Sometime during the day, the cat leaves the engine well but doesn't return to the vehicle when it's quittin' time, so gets stranded at the workplace.

Why you might ask does it take 2 weeks to be found, well it takes the cat that long to realize to return to the place where it got out of the engine, most actually never figure that out, but some do.

Now cats and dogs are simply amazing, I don't want to suggest that they aren't, but this is just too easy to explain for all the hoopla.

6. There is one other unlucky situation that happened to a group of kittens near my cousin's one time.
