Hatefilled Christian Book Store?
My wife and I frequented a large Christian Book store yesterday, which I wasn't too excited about anyway because I'm not the religious buff that her family is (Catholic). We were picking up a kids bible for her infant niece's baptism gift.

As we walked in through the double doors, I held the door for a lady at each time. She says nothing. I walk in the store and find a Glenn Beck book in there, which I faced the other direction (as I do at Target or any other store I see his filth peddled at). I also caught glimpses of the latest Veggie Tales books and videos depicting animated vegetables that lift and throw things without arms. I guess if Moses parted the Sea, they could surely throw a fish in the air without arms and a staff? I always thought that was odd, but it's darned near magic or wizardry, which I'd think is frowned up in a store like this. I also took note of the Bibles that are fashioned after NASCAR or...Veggie Tales, and think they have to be really pushing their own interpretation on you to link the biblical passages to those things. Already chuckling to myself at the irony of these instances happening at a store that pushes God, Christ and generally Love, my passenger side door is damned near ripped off as I get into the car to leave by a lady in a minivan. She had to have not even used her breaks as she was whipped into the icy parking spot next to us, and just seconds after I closed my door. She must have been looking for that last copy of Glen Becks shitty Holiday book that they had on hand before all the other hate filled patrons could get to it?

The check out girl was very pleasant however.

1. Nascar Bible?
Is it signed by Ricky Bobby? Dedicated to the infant baby Jesus?

3. I don't know about hatefilled but...
I once offended rather easily a worker in a Mardel's (Xtian book store).

I do magic and balloon twisting on the side, and I needed some small manila envelopes for a trick so I thought, "Donation envelopes!" I asked an employee where they were, and she took me to them and asked me what I wanted them for. I keep my hair pretty shortly-cropped and was dressed conservatively so she probably thought I was a youth minister. I forgot where I was and said, "Magic trick." She visibly stiffened and her demeanor got colder as she asked if there was anything else. As I bought them, I thought to myself, "I should have explained the trick to her as it involved cards, a poker chip, money, and mind reading. If I could work in alcohol and sex into it, she would have exploded right there in the aisle."

This is just one of the "dangers" of doing magic in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

18. I do enjoy the Veggies, although the last couple we collected started getting
too preachy. When they were slamming on the pagans for worshiping pond scum(??!!) I got reallly irritated with them at that point.

7. Yikes. I've never stepped foot into a Christian bookstore, but (ro)
there was a store called "Sonshine" in irvine, calif near my old apartment. You could clearly see a life-sized cardboard Dubya through the window. Freaked me out.

9. This Quaker says "meh"
I don't frequent bookstores like that unless I'm doing field research. If I want a book on Quaker belief or wisdom, there are alternative channels I can pursue.

11. that was one of the things I disliked about religious books
it seemed to me that people used them to reinforce what they already believed, rather than to explore new ideas. Thus Lutherans only bought Lutheran books, Catholics bought Catholic books, Moravians bought Moravian books, Baptists bought Baptist books, etc.. Why shouldn't a Lutheran want to read a good book by a Quaker and a Quaker read a good book by a Baptist?

12. I was raised Baptist, exposed to Lutheran TV shows and Catholic Bibles as a kid...
...and wound up Quaker. But yes, I acknowledge your point. If you just read the works of people who just want to reinforce your own previously-held notions of All That Is, why go to all that trouble?

The human mind does need to be challenged every once in a while.

19. 'all the other hate filled patrons'??
Hey, I'm an atheist, but I went into a Christian book shop a few weeks ago with a friend who wanted to buy some CAtholic blessing thingy for one of her kids teachers, and while the subject matter in the store did nothing for me, there was no hate, and everyone in there was pretty much the same as people in any other shop. See, people who don't say thanks when others open doors for them and dicks in carparks are an everyday occurance and not confined to Chistian bookshops. So I'm not seeing this hate you are making out infested this store you visited, and think yr being overly harsh labelling patrons of the store as hatefilled...

20. Two different cars cut me off in the parking lot at the post office.
Do you suppose they were Christians? Or just mail haters?
