2. I am every time I think of Gidget and The Geezer |
|
and realize what an awful mess we'd be in by now.
While it doesn't seem like Obama has done that much at times, we seem to have escaped a depression for now in favor of a deep recession.
Nobody who was raised by Depression babies wants another one.

Not to mention that McCain's been my Senator my entire voting life--no thanks.

got some sort of health care reform passed. The past 7 presidents haven't been able to. Can you imagine if McCain or Palin were President during this economic mess Bush left us in? We'd be in a hell of a mess.

Without a doubt.
I am a harsh critic of his Afgahn war, landmine, patriot act, and HCR policies. Sometimes I want change to happen faster.
But at the end of the day, I try to remember what it was like on Nov. 4, 2008 when we at least symbolically voted out Bu$hCo and the GOP.
It was a great feeling.
Let's keep working -- 3 years is a long time to get things done!

In less than a year in office he successfully pushed through the beginnings for Health Care Reform. Not bad. Not everyone is happy with it, but that is what he ran on, compromise. The sign of a good compromise, both sides aren't left happy. We really have to take a step back and realize that if Obama could have written the plan himself, it would look different. With the tragic death of Teddy, and the death of Joe Liberman's morality, it had to be pushed in any way it could. We have a health care package. It is something that needs to be built up over time before we see universal quality healthcare, but we are finally on the way. As an aspiring Historian (working toward my PhD), I think we will look back on this as the beginnings of a better system that will unfold over time. I would go on, but that seems to be the hot topic, so I'll leave it at that. I'll raise a glass to President Obama tonight!

I'm glad he won, but I'm less glad than I was a year ago.
In 2008, with my state (New York) safely in the bag, I traveled to Pennsylvania to go door-to-door for Obama. In 2012, if current trends continue, I'll vote for him but that's it. My limited volunteer time will go to candidates lower on the ticket.

I cannot say that I am overwhelmed by disappointment. Because I didn't really expect fabulous things.
In light of the political realities that actually exist in the current world, I would have to say that though I would like to see more changes that I can believe in, I am still happy that he is President.
