Ala.'s Parker switches from Dems to GOP

WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Saying his values and those of the Democratic Party no longer aligned, Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama said Tuesday he was switching to the Republican Party.

Griffith, a physician-turned U.S. congressman, cited his opposition to the healthcare reform bill and the national debt as two reasons for his party switch, AL.com reported.

"I now believe I have to go farther and stand with a party that is more in tune with my beliefs," Griffith said during a news conference. "This was not an easy decision for me."

Griffith, elected in 2008, joined the so-called Blue Dog Democrats, a coalition of fiscally and socially conservative members of the House majority party.

2. They deserve each other.
There are several more who should make honest men or women of themselves.

3. He's suffering from Stockholm Syndrome

The RNC was brutal against him in the election and now he's one of them.

4. Huh.
"Saying his values and those of the Democratic Party no longer aligned..."

I somehow doubt that they ever did. Can't say I'll shed any tears.

5. Well my opinion on this is
if you are democrat and switch parties you have to give up your seat and let them appoint a democrat to fill out the term. And the same if you are a republican and switch, a republican is appointed to your seat.

It is not fair to the voters for a person to do this.
