I just really don't understand republicans
I try to pride myself on being fair. I try to make sure that I don't fall into that thinking of my political party is the "good guys" and the other political party is the "bad guys".

But I really don't understand republicans.

I have tried, I really have tried.

I got into facebook arguement with a guy that I went to school with. Status update just said "thinks universal healthcare is the stupidest thing ever".

I jokingly wrote "You say that until you don't have insurance and you end up in the ER lol"

He writes "That will never happen because I have a JOB and I PAY for private insurance".

Of course I had to school him on, well what would happen if you lost your job? (He would just get another one! dontcha know) I wrote all about how hard that is. I wrote why are you trying so hard to protect billion dollar insurance companies instead of the little people. I told him that due to my religious beliefs it's not okay to have a "screw you I got mine" attitude.

This went on and on.

Now I totally understand people being against current HCR bill. I understand that not everyone is going to share my liberal views. But I do not understand the screw you I got mine attitude. Another woman chimed in and said they pay $600 for crappy insurance. He tells her just get a new job with better insurance! lol

Of course he goes on about the evils of gov't being in our lives, so I of course say well then let's get gov't completely out of our lives... legalize drugs, prostitution and gay marriage. Have the gov't stop checking the safety of our food, fighting wars and fixing roads. I tell him gov't is there to work for us! If they can use their power to make our lives better, well that's what they are there for.

The thing is this guy has fallen for republican propaganda hook, line and sinker. He is completely against social programs. Why are republicans so afraid of social programs? Are they afraid women and miniorities might get powerful? I have to wonder if their agenda really is keep the rich rich and the poor poor.

And this tea party crap. Where were they when Bush spent us into trillion dollar deficit? Why didn't they take to the streets before we went to war with Iraq? Why did gov't only become some terrible horrible thing that you can not trust once Obama took office. Prior to that it was "pray for the president" or "if you don't like this country get out". If we criticized the Bush administration we were asked, "why do you hate America"... but now they are taking to the streets with their dumb faces with signs demeaning our president and no one ask them why they hate America and if they don't like it get out?

I'm sorry I had to get this off my chest. I don't get to get on the computer much. I have a preemie who got home from the NICU. We were lucky that our state has medicaid (or is it medicare?) to pay the rest of her NICU bills that our insurance didn't cover. I am very thankful for this and would never deny someone else the same need if it should arise. So you can understand why I am for universal healthcare or at least everyone having the same opportunity that I had to keep my 24 week preemie alive and not lose my house in the process.

That covers anyone who thinks that way no matter which party they're in.

2. The wall has to fall on top of him
before he realizes it wasn't held up by anything but right wing hot air. Sadly, that will happen to most right wingers at some point, if not now, then in some later economic bust.

He's in a cult. He has a tremendous sense of belonging to something much bigger than himself. Unless you're a professional deprogrammer, there's not much you can do about it.

You just have to wait for that wall of bricks to descend on top of him. Then he'll be reachable.

3. What I really don't understand are the poor republicans
GOP is the party of the wealthy.

Anyone making less than $500K year and calls themselves a republican is a poor republican. They support that which contradicts their own needs.

I have always said, I will never be rich enough to be a republican.

4. "Protecting the little people"?
"I wrote why are you trying so hard to protect billion dollar insurance companies instead of the little people." -- You mean by forcing everyone in the U.S. to purchase insurance from billion dollar insurance companies?

11. agreed
Me too. But that will never happen with the current group of goons that run Washington. Or rather, than will not happen as long as goons in Washington are running things.

6. Congratulations on your baby girl.
Conservatives are impervious to facts and logic, but I enjoyed reading your rant and am glad you got that off your chest. Folk like this cannot be fixed until and unless they want to be. It's always harder when a friend disappoints us.

7. It's not the social programs..
Its just the social part. Most repub's I know are scared to death that any give to the left will somehow result in a socialist country.. ie communist. They're fear of this is so grand reason has no effect. It's not the ideas.. its the brainwashing. Unfortunately, I was once among them.

9. Read "The Authoritarians" by Bob Altemeyer. It's free on the Intertubes.
I say they are all bullies. Some are dominate bullies and others are follower bullies. You know the dominate bullies, like bush* and Cheney. The follower bullies are the teabaggers. On the school yard they are the ones that told the dominate bullies to pick on the weaker kids to distract the dominates from themselves. They think life is an end-sum game. The most disasters happening to others means less chance for them to meet disaster. They are willfully ignorant cowards.

10. their agenda really is
to keep the rich rich and the poor poor.

Ignorant nincompoops keep their dream alive. Like a Job will always be there... or my favorite is "if you work hard and keep your nose to the grindstone you will become rich" HA BULL...

I am self employed and most republicans are to chickenshit (like your friend) to go months at a time without a paycheck. or even just how expensive that health care is, the employer pays.

As I am self employed I have come to realize (like most self employed republicans do) that the only way to riches is to screw the other guy.

Thus I am counting On Karma.
