Where I come from, I was taught that a man is only as good as his word. |
|
I think that's a wise way to evaluate someone's character.
"...no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." --Obama 2008
"Every single criteria for reform I put forward is in this bill," --Obama 12/22/2009
The bill includes a tax on benefits for working people who have committed the grave sin of having good benefits. If Obama signs this bill, he is a liar about taxes.

Change we can believe in certainly needs a small print *I'm just fooling with ya* rider.

2. He's going to get crushed for that if that aspect of the bill winds up going forward. |
|
He made a huge deal about that many times.

if you parse his campaign language carefully.

9. I totally agree. Somethings come and go during policy development. |

But I felt like that was one of the few lines in the sand he drew.

11. I agree, both with the OP and with you. |

Obama has been running away from what he campaigned on so hard he and his party will surely pay at the polls.
Also, you're right. This creates a problem that gets worse and worse.
Until the bush tax cuts are rolled back, or at least a legitimate attempt is made, I can't support a Democrat.

10. Were Obama able alone to comply with your requirement for a no "tax" HCR, name the other issues in |

the order of their priority to you, from most expendable to least expendable, that you would be willing to sacrifice for meeting your no "tax" HCR requirement.

12. under $250,000, says Obama as quoted in the OP. |
|
How about we restore the tax rate pre-Reagan: 74% tax on millionaires? That would pay for health care.

13. What I'm trying to find out is what people are willing to give up in order to make that happen. |
|
If it were possible, it would require trade-offs, that IS the way it is done; what defeats on other issues would people be willing to endure to get what they want on this issue. You'll find almost no one ever answers this question.

14. Obama-like, you try to negotiate away your position |
|
before negotiation even starts.
I say pull the plug on the whole thing and start over with Medicare For Everyone via reconciliation. Make any bastard who opposes it go on the record opposing it. I'm not inclined to give up any more than the spineless assholes have already flushed away.

explaining why the mandate was not a tax. http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/09/obama-mandate-is-not-a-tax.htmlI hope he has a better sound bite for next time.
