I believe it. You can now by a cheap, serviceable injet printer for less than the cost of replacement ink cartridges.

1. I laughed as I read this. I recently bought another HP PSC.
My current one is fine but the replacement inks, #'s 56 & 57 cost $54.00 plus tax. The new PSC was
$39.00(with ink). I commented on this and was told by the Staples folks that the cart's in the new ones held less ink. Somehow I think a stop in production just to put less ink in "starter cart's" would be a big waste.

The replacement ink business is a money maker. I sure wish I could find a source with ink at a logical price. Buying on-line may be a little cheaper but when you add the shipping, it comes out too close to bother. Maybe I should make it a habit to just buy new machines every time I need ink.

BTW, anyone know if I can put two black cart's in place of 1 black and 1 color? I cannot seem to find a way to change the settings on the current HP1210 to print in black only. Is in not always possible to highlight something you'd like to print so that it would be all black. I really don't need logo's and ads in color. Actually, I don't want them at all. The Print View option is not always available.

Great chart.

4. The printer driver should have something under "properties"...
(or something like that) that allows you to reduce the amount of ink you use and allows you to print in grayscale or all black. All my printers have some such thing. Dig around those buttons when the print thingy pops up, and don't avoid the "advanced" button.

On my lasers and inkjets I go for the draft printing and avoid "best" when printing for my own use.

Here's something interesting that might save some ink or toner:

2. How about comparing the relative cost of nudging politicians to vote the right way with earmarks?
Relative viscosity of liquid assets if you wish.

3. the refills are so expensive that most people i know don't print things at home anymore.
it's beyond ridiculous. and the fact that there are about 500 different kinds of cartridges is insane. what a racket.

5. It's not really the ink, it's those cartridges.
The ink itself is not that hard to produce. This is just plain bad design.
