Sir, can you spare eighty-seven cents?
I was having a tough morning a couple days ago. You see I had lost my $$ sunglasses,
and I was in a quandry about whether to give up looking and go spend the money on a new pair.
I was also upset with myself, because I had to go to a fancy dinner that night, and none
of my good pants would fit.

So I decided to stop by my office to make one last effort at finding my glasses.

As I returned to my car disheartened and sans glasses, a man pushing a bicycle appeared out of
nowhere and in that downtrodden ashamed way asked me, sir can you spare eighty-seven cents?
He was obviously sleeping outside and although South Florida is not real cold, it has been
cold for our standards, so I asked him if he needed a blanket. I had an extra in my car.
He declined, saying he had one where he was sleeping.

I went to my car and got a few dollars and he accepted it, as if I'd given him $100.

I've tried to stop kicking myself in the ass for being such a spoiled shithead, but I can't
seem to get this interaction out of my head, and it will be what I remember of this Christmas season.

Be grateful for whatever you have, even if you don't have much. It's a lesson I've certainly been
schooled on lately. Happy holidays to all of you.

1. interaction with a homeless person
does have a way to put things in perspective....I am glad you treated him with dignity, as they aren't treated that way very often. Oh and I hope you found your sunglasses, I finally resorted into buying 5 or 6 dollar ones as I have a very bad habit of losing and or breaking them.

3. Isn't it funny, at least for me, I never lose my cheaper glasses, always
the pricey ones. Thanks for the OP, that is what the season is about and you most likely will have good luck in the new year for your kindness..

5. It's one of the joys of getting older
I can buy a nice pair, and I now get about a year or two out of them. :-)

. . but it took me to 45 years old to get here. . . . :silly:

Thank you for the nice comments . .
